Netflix swipes ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ in second season
The Amazon streamer appears to be retooling its strategy for unscripted content.
“Where will ‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ stream in its second season? for $800, please, Colin.” Fans of the Prime Video competition series “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” might be a little confused by the answer to that question, as the show won’t be returning to the Amazon-owned streamer for its next season. In a rare move, “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” is switching platforms for its upcoming batch of episodes.
Key Details:
- Bigger and better things: “Pop Culture Jeopardy! is moving to Netflix in its second season.
- Call in a ringer?: Host Colin Jost is in talks to return for Season 2.
- Back to the drawing board: Prime Video may still be tinkering with its unscripted strategy.
As announced by the streamer itself, Netflix will take over as the home of Sony Pictures Television’s “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” in its second season. The series will return with its new batch of episodes sometime in 2026, though Netflix declined to provide more specific details about its release window.
“Pop Culture Jeopardy!” puts a spin on the game show’s format of answer and question. The show teams contestants up to test their knowledge on movies, TV shows, music, and other pop culture-related trivia in a tournament-style show, with a grand prize waiting at the end.
Deadline reports The show’s host, Colin Jost, is in talks to return for a second season, but has not been confirmed as coming back just yet.
The switch to Netflix is part of a larger exploration of its unscripted strategy by Prime Video. Its new global head of television, Peter Friedlander, may be looking to put his own mark on the unscripted programming lineup of Prime Video, and several other Amazon unscripted executives have moved to Netflix in the past year. Still, Netflix believes Prime Video’s loss is its gain.
“Pop Culture Jeopardy! captivated an audience with its fun and energetic game play, building on the beloved franchise and offering fans an opportunity to test their zeitgeist knowledge,” Sony Pictures executive Suzanne Prete said. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with the exemplary team at Netflix, to bring more episodes to our passionate and loyal viewers.”
