Prime Video to generate ‘tens of billions’ in revenue for Amazon
The streamer is now profitable on its own, and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says it will be a major revenue engine for the company going forward.
When Amazon releases its quarterly earnings report, it’s usually pretty short on details regarding the company’s streaming service Prime Video. While we know that there are over 200 million Prime Video subscribers, that number includes viewers with an Amazon Prime subscription who might never engage with the streaming service. But Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has nothing but praise for Prime Video, saying he expects it to be a huge source of revenue for the company going forward.
Key Details:
- Billions with a B: Jassy says he expects Prime Video to generate “tens of billions” in revenue going forward.
- We’ve done it: The CEO reiterated previous statements that Prime Video is now profitable in its own right.
- Hits on hits: “Reacher” Season 4 was a major hit for Prime Video in Q3, with more hits to come.
During Amazon’s third quarter 2026 earnings call on Thursday, Jassy said Prime Video’s numbers are quite healthy indeed. He sees the streaming service as a meaningful revenue generator inside a company that doesn’t really need its streaming service to do huge numbers every year, considering how much money Amazon rakes in overall.
Nevertheless, Prime Video “has emerged as a significant business with a revenue run rate in the tens of billions of dollars and is now profitable in its own right,” Jassy said. Prime Video was first revealed as profitable in May, achieving a benchmark that every streamer has striven so hard to achieve over recent years.
Prime Video’s major hit during the third quarter of 2026 was “Reacher” Season 4, which attracted 66 million views in 28 days and scored an early renewal for its sixth season in September. The month to come has more big premieres on the calendar, with “The Chosen” Season 6 and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” bowing on Prime Video in November.
Amazon has also been able to generate significant revenue from Amazon MGM Studios, which has brought in over $1.2 billion in ticket sales this year thanks to films like “Project Hail Mary” and “Verity.” The former film pulled in around $684 million globally and is available to stream now on Prime Video.
Amazon’s streaming service will continue to draw audiences to live sports in November. The streamer will present a live NFL game on Black Friday, “Thursday Night Football” games, NBA games, and more throughout the month.
