Roku Channel to stream Pro Volleyball Federation matches free
Roku announced a new deal to stream 20 PVF matches at no cost on its dedicated sports channel.
Roku might not be the first name sports fans think of when it comes to streaming live matches and games, but it may be time to reconsider that. The company has announced yet another live sports deal, this time with the Pro Volleyball Federation, which is expanding its TV footprint even further by sending a package of its matches to stream for free on The Roku Channel.
Key Details:
- The Roku Channel will stream 20 PVF matches at no cost to viewers.
- The matches will be available on the Roku Sports Channel.
- The PVF season begins on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
The deal will allow for The Roku Channel to offer 20 PVF matches completely free to all viewers. Each of these matches will be made available on the Roku Sports Channel, which launched in August as a way to keep all the streamer’s marquee sports programming in a single place.
“Women’s volleyball has a passionate and expansive fanbase, and PVF’s position as the premier professional league makes them the ideal partner for Roku,” said Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports, Roku Media. “As we continue to expand our sports offering, adding PVF as our first women’s professional league partnership underscores our commitment to delivering premium live sports to a wider fanbase.”
In addition to Roku, PVF has made deals with CBS and Fox to broadcast matches. In all, 45 PFV contests will be made available on TV or streaming, representing a 350% increase in coverage as compared to the federation’s inaugural season. The 2025 PVF season will begin on Thursday, Jan. 9, and viewers can also stream matches on YouTube.
“This partnership with Roku continues a transformative period in PVF’s growth, delivering on our promise to provide national visibility for our athletes and sport,” said Jen Spicher, CEO of Pro Volleyball Federation. “In just 90 days, we’ve built the most extensive broadcast footprint in professional volleyball, creating a strong foundation for our league as it enters its second season.”
Roku has added other big-name sports to its free streamer in recent months, as well. In May 2024, it struck a deal with Major League Baseball to offer that league's “Sunday Leadoff” package, and in December it announced an agreement to stream X Games Aspen beginning later this month.
