Stream ‘Strange New Worlds’ finale, ‘Warfare’ this week
Stream ‘Strange New Worlds’ finale, ‘Warfare’ this week
A new thriller from Prime Video and a unique concert from the Vatican also make appearances on this week’s streaming slate.
How are we feeling, football fans? Satiated after a long, glorious weekend of gridiron action? It was an epic week of NFL and college football action, with games every day from Thursday through Sunday. This week, the schedule settles back into a more standard routine, with no Friday NFL games but the return of “Monday Night Football.”
For those who don’t care much for football, I promise there will be less of it in this week’s list of the best shows and movies to stream. Check out the non-sports titles I found, which are coming to streaming each day of the week on top platforms.
Monday, Sept. 8
‘Monday Night Football’ season premiere | ABC, ESPN, watch with a Sling TV Day Pass for just $5.
Ok, ok, one more. There are just too many storylines in this game for an NFL fan to ignore. The matchup of Caleb Williams with new head coach Ben Johnson and all the intrigue that comes with the Chicago Bears this year versus the regular-season debut of J.J. McCarthy for the Minnesota Vikings is one of the more attention-worthy of Week 1.
Sling TV
Sling TV is The Streamable’s choice for cord-cutters on a budget. Sling is a live TV streaming service with multiple channel packages. The $45.99/month Sling Orange plan offers about 30 channels, including Disney Channel and ESPN. The $45.99/month Sling Blue plan offers about 40 channels, including ABC, Fox, and NBC in major markets.
You can combine Orange+Blue for a total of $60.99 / month. Sling also offers many channel add-on packages starting at $6/month.
From a non-football angle, the game is just as interesting because of the ability to watch it via a Sling TV Pass. Sling’s Passes are a pretty innovative product — there haven’t been many attempts to offer short-term access to cable channels like ESPN the way Sling TV is doing. Programmers aren’t happy; Disney is suing over the creation of Passes, saying their channels were used without consent in the packages. Depending on the outcome of that suit, Passes may not be around for long, and a matchup like this is exactly what they’re made for.
Tuesday, Sept. 9
‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 premiere | Hulu
After their beloved doorman, Lester, dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond - where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia.
The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city, they thought they knew, and the new New York evolving around them - one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge. More exposed than ever, the trio has to tread very carefully if they want to make it out of this case in one piece.
Wednesday, Sept. 10
‘The Girlfriend’ series premiere | Prime Video
“The Girlfriend” is a thriller series that centers on what looks to be a perfect, harmonious family. Matriarch Laura has a fantastic career, a loving husband, and a strong relationship with her son Daniel. But it all begins to fall apart when Daniel brings home a new girlfriend named Cherry, who begins leaving her mark almost immediately.
From their first meeting, Laura decides she senses something off about Cherry. What is the girl hiding? Is she a grasping and ambitious climber who will stop at nothing to dig her claws into someone above her station, or is it just Laura’s maternal paranoia working overtime?

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 3 finale | Paramount+
There aren’t many details about the Season 3 finale episode of “Strange New Worlds” yet, but we do know the episode will be named “New Life and New Civilizations.” Star Trek fans will know those words quite well by now, and there’s reason to guess that the episode may reach for some of the high-minded ideals the franchise has had at its heart since its inception.
Thus far in the season, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” has given fans a taste of James T. Kirk in command for the first time, revived fun characters from past Trek series like Trelane, and explored some of the strangest planets yet. I’m excited to find out what the season finale has in store!
Friday, Sept. 12
‘Warfare’ finale | HBO Max
A24’s new movie “Warfare” is one of the most unique war movies ever made, and perhaps one of the most accurate depictions of combat ever put on film. I can’t pass up the opportunity to point out I nailed the release date of “Warfare” in April, though it is admittedly pretty hard to nail down the streaming release windows of A24 movies.
HBO Max
HBO Max is a subscription video streaming service that gives access to the full HBO library and exclusive Max Originals. There are hubs for content from TLC, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, TCM, Cartoon Network, Travel Channel, ID, and more. Watch hit series like “The Last of Us,” “House of the Dragon,” “Succession,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and more. Within HBO Max, B/R Sports allows users to watch live NBA, MLB, NHL, March Madness, and NASCAR events.
Written and directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (“Civil War,” “28 Days Later”, Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.
Saturday, Sept. 13
Concert from Vatican City, co-hosted by Pharrell Williams and Maestro Andrea Bocelli | Disney+
This is one of the more interesting live performances I’ve seen Disney+ offer. Co-directed by Pharrell Williams and Andrea Bocelli, this once-in-a-generation concert will be held in St. Peter’s Square for the first time in history. Supported by the Vatican, the event marks the closing of the third World Meeting on Human Fraternity and the celebration of the 2025 Jubilee Year.
Disney+
Disney+ is a video streaming service with over 13,000 series and films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, The Muppets, and more. It is available in 61 countries and 21 languages. It is notable for its popular original series like “The Mandalorian,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Loki,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and “Andor.”
Designed as a moment of global unity, the event will bring together music, reflection, and visual storytelling in a singular live experience. If you’re looking for an alternative to college football on Saturday afternoon, this could be just the palate cleanser you’ve been looking for.
Sunday, Sept. 14
The 77th annual Emmy Awards | CBS, watch with a five-day free trial of DIRECTV.
Comedian Nate Bargatze is slated to host the Primetime Emmys this year, taking the reins of the ceremony for the first time. Bargatze’s warm and family-friendly style seems perfect for the CBS broadcast of the awards, which will see the best in TV for the past year receive their laurels.
DIRECTV
DIRECTV is one of The Streamable’s top choices for the best live TV streaming service overall in 2026, especially for users who want the most channels or want to watch the most live sports. With an unbeatable lineup of local, news, sports, and entertainment channels, three main signature packages, an unlimited DVR, and 20 simultaneous streams at home, DIRECTV remains a premier choice for any cord-cutter.
Apple TV+ has a strong presence at the Emmys this year. The mind-bending sci-fi drama series “Severance” has 27 total nominations, the most of any show this year. The Seth Rogen-led comedy “The Studio” has 23 nominations to its name, tying a record for the most in the comedy category. HBO and HBO Max combined for 142 total nominations, and Netflix has 120 more, guaranteeing that streamers will have a strong presence in the winner’s circle.
