Watch new seasons of ‘Shrinking,’ ‘Bridgerton,’ more this week
There’s plenty of new shows and movies headed to top streamers before the Grammys on Sunday night.
I know it seems a little early to think about 2027, but the first month of 2026 is already coming to a close. It’s the last full week of January, and while that may not seem like the most notable time of year to turn to your favorite streaming service for a new release, you might be surprised at the new shows and movies headed to streaming this week.
We’ve scoured through the listings to pick out the best of the best for the week’s viewing, and you can see what we’re recommending in the list below! Will you find your new favorite obsession, or welcome the return of a comfort show? Check and see.

‘American Idol’ Season 24 premiere | ABC, stream with a three-day free trial of Hulu + Live TV.
America’s favorite singing competition show is back. American Idol,” the iconic series that revolutionized the television landscape by pioneering the music competition genre, returns to airwaves for another season on ABC. Ryan Seacrest returns as host, joined by judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood.
The audition process begins with the season premiere on Monday night, meaning fans will get a chance to discover new favorite performers from their first appearance on the show. Who will you wind up rooting for this season? Will they make it through to the final? There’s only one way to find out.

‘Wonder Man’ series premiere | Disney+
“Wonder Man” is the latest Marvel series, and it takes the universe in a pretty different direction than past shows. It centers on Simon Williams, an aspiring actor who can’t seem to get his career going until a chance encounter with one Trevor Slattery, a performer whose best days are well behind him.
When a legendary director decides to remake the superhero movie “Wonder Man,” both Simon and Trevor decide to pursue the roles of their lives. I’m fascinated to see where “Wonder Man” goes, and how much (if any) it will try to provide a reset of the MCU before the new “Avengers” movies make it to theaters in late 2026.
Wednesday, Jan. 28
‘Shrinking’ Season 3 premiere | Apple TV
Prepare to laugh, cry, and laugh again, “Shrinking” fans. The show is back for another bittersweet season, and though Jimmy has finally reconciled himself to forgiving the man who killed his wife in a drunk driving accident, it seems a little too much to hope that he’s suddenly right as rain.
That’s especially true in Season 3, with Jimmy’s daughter Alice headed off to college, and the sudden return of his father into his life. Michael J. Fox is joining the cast as well this season, which could be the most hilarious and heart-rending of them all.
Thursday, Jan. 29
‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 premiere | Netflix
Prepare to be swept up in another season of romance and scandal with the new season of “Bridgeton.” Season 4 of the show will shift focus to the second son, Benedict Bridgerton, who refuses to settle down and show the sense that should be a given, considering his station.
Bridgerton
Wealth, lust, and betrayal set in the backdrop of Regency era England, seen through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family.
Things all change at Violet’s masquerade ball, however, when Benedict is stricken with love by a masked Lady in Silver. He sets out to discover the young woman’s identity at any cost, but how will he feel when he discovers that she’s a resourceful maid, and not a member of high society at all?
Friday, Jan. 30
‘If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You’ streaming premiere | HBO Max
This one may not be the most uplifting movie you’ll watch this year, but as an A24 film, it does have a good dose of dark comedy. The film follows Linda, a woman whose life is spiraling downward, with a horribly ill child and a husband whose emotional distance matches his physical absence.
Making things worse is Linda’s increasingly difficult dynamic with her therapist. Attempting to navigate these maladies as best she can, Linda’s grip on reality begins to loosen, and eventually the lines between sanity and madness begin to blur beyond the point of recognition.

‘Missing the Boat original movie premiere | Hallmark Channel, watch with a subscription to Philo
An Italian cruise sounds like most people’s idea of paradise. But on any cruise, it’s important to know the ship’s departure times when you hit a port, as Parker (Kristoffer Polaha) and Kelly (Emilie Ullerup) find out the hard way in “Missing the Boat.”
Philo
Philo is a live TV streaming service designed for entertainment lovers, offering flexible ways to watch without the high price of traditional TV bundles. The service now features two paid plans — Essential and Bundle+ — alongside its existing free streaming offering, giving customers a range of options depending on how much live and premium content they want.
When their cruise ship leaves without them after a stop, Parker and Kelly are forced to work together to get across southern Italy as fast as they can to reach the ship again. Will love blossom as they journey across one of the most romantic countries on Earth? Anything’s possible.
