‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Heads to Streaming on Halloween; Where to Watch the Original

The movie is headed to streaming far earlier than The Streamable predicted, but where will it debut?

Happy Halloween, Spider-Man fans! Everyone’s favorite web-slinger is back with his latest cinematic masterpiece “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which first debuted in theaters on Friday, June 2 in the United States. Now, the movie is preparing to make its streaming debut, and it’s coming to Netflix much sooner than we here at The Streamable originally predicted.

  • “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” will debut on Netflix on Oct. 31.
  • The earlier-than-anticipated premiere could be an indication of the weak theatrical box office in 2023.
  • “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is surprisingly tricky to find, but it is available to stream as well.

Early Release

The Halloween release date confirmed for “Across the Spider-Verse” means that the film will have been available in theaters and on transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platforms for 151 days before making its way to Netflix. That’s a healthy theatrical window to be sure, but it still falls short of the 200+ days The Streamable guessed it would take to see the film on streaming platforms.

Part of the reason for this earlier bow onto Netflix could be the state of the theatrical movie business in general. Blockbusters have been hard to come by this year, and many films like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have underperformed. “Across the Spider-Verse” brought in a very respectable haul of nearly $700 million, but even that number could have convinced Sony to usher it through its stay in cinemas a little faster than it would have liked.

“Across the Spider-Verse” features Miles Morales donning the red and black suit once again. This time, he finds himself pitted against Spider-People from across the Multiverse when his goals run counter to those of the Spider Society, and Morales will risk everything to save the people he loves most.

Where to Stream ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

If you’re a little lost or feel the need to catch up before heading to Netflix to stream “Across the Spider-Verse,” you’ll probably want to refresh yourself by watching “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” to see the Morales origin story. Unfortunately, this is a bit easier said than done, as the film is not on Netflix or any other subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform.

The film is available to stream on demand for users who have TV Everywhere credentials and FXM as part of their channel lineup. Otherwise, the best and most convenient way to stream “Into the Spider-Verse” is to rent the movie for $3.99 on Prime Video.

Prime Video

Prime Video is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 10,000+ movies, TV shows, and Prime Originals like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Jack Ryan,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Boys,” and more. …

Prime Video is included with Amazon Prime for $14.99 per month ($139 per year), or can be purchased on its own for $8.99 per month. A standalone, ad-supported version costs $8.99 per month, while the upgraded Prime Video Ultra tier, costing an extra $4.99 per month or $45.99 per year, adds Dolby Atmos support, ups video quality to 4K UHD, removes ads, and allows for 100 downloads and 5 simultaneous streams. Prime Video offers a 30-day free trial.

Prime Video currently offers over 25,000 movies and TV episodes, many of which are original productions. Live sports coverage includes NFL Thursday Night Football as well as select NBA, WNBA, and NWSL events.
