When is ‘Ballerina’ set to hit on-demand streaming?
The new movie set in the ‘John Wick’ universe is making its way to theaters on Friday, June 6.
Ana de Armas stars as a dancer with some truly deadly moves in “Ballerina,” the new film set in the world of the “John Wick” franchise. “Ballerina” is in theaters officially as of Friday, June 6, and while it’s not available to stream quite yet, we’ll let you know when we think it will be, and what streamer it will be on below!
Key Details:
- Center stage: “Ballerina” is a hit with critics and preview audiences so far.
- Stars aligning: As a Lionsgate movie, “Ballerina” will stream on STARZ first.
- Graceful delay: Lionsgate typically doesn’t release its movies to streaming terribly quickly.
“Ballerina” takes place between “John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum” and “John Wick Chapter 4.” It stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who will stop at nothing to avenge her father’s death. She begins training in the traditions of the Ruska Roma assassins to help her in this goal, and doesn’t intend to let anyone stand in her way.
Critics are liking “Ballerina,” as evidenced by its 73% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences who have seen a preview screening agree; 93% of these have registered their approval so far. “Ballerina” stars de Armas alongside Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.

When will you be able to stream ‘Ballerina’ at home?
We know for sure where you’ll be able to watch “Ballerina” once it’s no longer exclusive to theaters. Despite a split that saw Lionsgate and STARZ divide into two separate companies this year, Lionsgate movies are still bound for the STARZ streaming service after they finish in cinemas and their exclusive PVOD and TVOD (premium and transactional video-on-demand) windows where you can rent or buy them digitally.
The wait for “Ballerina” to arrive on STARZ will probably be a lengthy one. Lionsgate has always been a firm believer in maximizing theatrical windows for its movies; The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” took more than 140 days to reach streaming, and the recent Mark Wahlberg vehicle “Flight Risk” came to STARZ 120 days after arriving in theaters.
I think “Ballerina” will lean toward the longer of these windows, since I expect it to be a hit with fans at the box office. With that in mind, I’ll predict that “Ballerina” won’t be available to stream on-demand on STARZ until Friday, Oct. 24 — just in time for Halloween.
Additionally, the movie could also end up on Peacock in the future, as past “John Wick” titles have done. There’s no official word on when or even if “Ballerina” will stream on Peacock, but it would hardly be a surprise to see it there after a period of exclusivity on STARZ.
