Prime Video is one of the most unique streaming services on the market in one sense: viewers can get a subscription as a benefit of another service. Customers can either sign up for Prime Video on its own or get it as part of the larger Amazon Prime subscription with two-day shipping and other benefits.

There are also decisions to make when you’re sure you want to sign up for Prime Video, such as whether or not to watch the service with ads. Fortunately, The Streamable’s experts are here to help; we’ve got all the details on Prime Video’s price tiers, what comes with each subscription, and more.

Everything you need to know about Prime Video’s price tiers

How much are Prime Video’s plans?

Prime Video has two main price tiers: its ad-supported plan for $9 per month, or the ad-free plan for $12 per month. That’s the cost of just buying Prime Video by itself, of course; if you want an Amazon Prime subscription that includes Prime Video as a benefit, that’s another story.

Amazon Prime with ad-supported Prime Video costs $15 per month, or viewers can upgrade to ad-free Prime Video alongside a Prime subscription for $18 per month.

Does Prime Video have annual plans?

There is no annual subscription option for standalone Prime Video plans. However, viewers can get a Prime subscription for $139 per year, and can then choose whether or not to upgrade their Prime Video subscription to an ad-free plan. This will include an extra monthly charge of $3, however.

Does Prime Video come with a free trial?

If you sign up for Prime Video at $9 per month and don’t have a Prime subscription that goes along with it, there is no free trial first. However, viewers who sign up for Prime (and Prime Video along with it) get a 30-day free trial to test out all the benefits of a subscription, such as fast shipping.

Can you add an extra member to a Prime Video subscription?

By setting up an Amazon Family account, you are able to share your Amazon Prime benefits (including Prime Video) with one other person at no extra cost. Four children can also be added to your Amazon Family, as well as four teens. Only adults will be able to control the full complement of Amazon Prime benefits, but all of these profiles will be able to stream Prime Video. There’s no extra cost for setting up an Amazon Family.

Is all Prime Video entertainment included with both subscriptions?

This is a layered question. In one sense, yes — every Prime Video original and the titles licensed by the streaming service as part of its library are available to customers of both the ad-supported and ad-free tiers. Anything you can watch without having to pay extra to rent or buy it on one Prime Video plan is available on the other.

But it should also be mentioned that Prime Video has an extensive catalog of movies and TV shows you can rent or buy, including some films that are still only in theaters. These titles do not become free to watch just because you have an Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription; you still have to pay the rental or purchase price to watch them.

Do you have to pay extra to watch sports on Prime Video?

While Prime Video may someday introduce a streaming plan — or plans — that allow viewers to cut out sports or pay more to continue watching them, at the moment, there is no extra charge or needed plan upgrade to watch live sports on Prime Video. The service carries the NFL’s “Thursday Night Football, NWSL soccer, WNBA games, and will begin streaming the NBA regular season and playoffs in fall 2025.

What are the features of each Prime Video plan?

The ad-supported Prime Video plan comes with three simultaneous streams, and 1080p HD resolution with 4K available on some titles. You can also download a selection of titles for offline viewing with this plan.

The ad-free Prime Video plan offers all the same features, but of course also streams with no commercials during playback.

What are the audio accessibility and subtitle options on Prime Video?

As a globally available streaming service that serves a diverse audience, Prime Video offers a large selection of subtitles and audio dubs on its titles. Learn more about Prime Video’s subtitle options with this link, and about its audio accessibility choices with this one.

Is Prime Video available in a bundle?

At the moment, Prime Video isn’t available as a bundle with any other streaming services in the traditional sense.

However, Prime Video customers can sign up for exclusive bundles of services that aren’t available to the general public through its streaming marketplace. Many of these bundles are available for discounts of 20% or more. Streaming services like STARZ, the MGM+ App, Hallmark+, and mothers are available in such bundles; in a non-bundled format, Prime Video also sells subscriptions to Apple TV+, HBO Max, Paramount+ and more.
