Super Bowl LX, Olympics viewership set records for Peacock
Super Bowl LX, Olympics viewership set records for Peacock
Although ratings for Super Bowl LX fell slightly as compared to 2025, Peacock saw more hours streamed on Feb. 8 than any day in its previous history.
Super Bowl LX turned Sunday, Feb. 8, into a day of redemption for Seattle Seahawks fans, as the team avenged its loss in 2015’s Super Bowl XLIX by defeating the New England Patriots 29-13. The game aired on NBC and streamed live on Peacock simultaneously, and ratings data for the day’s proceedings show a bit of a mixed bag for NBCU platforms overall.
Key Details:
- Up and down day: Super Bowl LX averaged 124.9 million viewers, a slight decrease over 2025’s ratings.
- Bird power: Peacock achieved its best day ever in hours streamed and reach.
- Strong Spanish audience: Telemundo delivered the largest U.S. Spanish-language Super Bowl audience ever.
Super Bowl LX drew 124.9 million viewers on average throughout its broadcast, becoming the second-most-watched Super Bowl in history. The game set an all-time record, with a peak audience of 137.8 million viewers during the second quarter. It was the most-viewed program in the history of NBC, but fell short only of Super Bowl LIX in 2025, which averaged 127.7 million viewers.
But the Super Bowl was only one reason why Peacock had a record-setting day on Sunday. According to NBC Sports, Sunday represented an all-time peak for the streamer in terms of both reach and hours streamed, as fans were able to stream Super Bowl coverage as well as Winter Olympics events throughout the day. More detailed viewership metrics from Peacock are expected to be available later in the week.
Peacock continues to stream every medal event of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, and anticipation for the Games helped to bring 3 million new subscribers to the streamer in the fourth quarter of 2025. The Super Bowl figures to be a major subscriber acquisition event for Peacock, as will the Milan Cortina Games.
The Super Bowl halftime show featuring Bad Bunny averaged 128.2 million viewers, and data cited by NBC from Ripple Analytics says that the show set a record for consumption on all platforms — including owned platforms, broadcast partners, social media, etc. — reaching four billion views in its first 24 hours.
Telemundo delivered the largest U.S. Spanish-language audience for a Super Bowl of all time. The channel averaged 3.3 million people during its Super Bowl LX broadcast, and that number jumped to 4.8 million during the halftime show.
Although NBC’s broadcast of Super Bowl LX didn’t quite surpass the average viewership of last year’s Big Game, it was still a clear success for NBCU platforms — particularly Peacock. The streamer had a record-setting day thanks to its Olympics and Super Bowl coverage, and it will be fascinating to see how many new subscribers it gains as a result.
