Peacock’s most underrated drama is twisty, weird, and so good
‘The Resort’ is the emotional vacation mystery you didn’t know you needed.
Peacock might be the go-to for reality TV junkies — between its “Real Housewives” empire and endless competition series, it’s cornered that market. But when it comes to Peacock originals, there’s one drama I absolutely love that’s been flying way under the radar, and it deserves way more attention. “The Resort” is twisty, weird in all the best ways, and emotionally powerful. It’s part murder mystery, part relationship drama, and part mind-bending sci-fi… something totally different from Peacock’s usual lineup. If you missed it when it dropped, now’s the time to catch up, because for my money, it’s the best under-the-radar drama on the platform.

Why ‘The Resort’ is the most underrated drama series on Peacock
My wife and I binged this show because 1) the mystery is great, and 2) we really cared about these characters. On the surface, “The Resort” is a murder(ish) mystery (one of my favorite genres) set against a sunny Yucatán backdrop (vacation please!), but what makes it great is how personal it feels. Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper are incredible as Emma and Noah, a couple stuck in a rut whose anniversary trip turns into a hunt for answers in a 15-year-old missing persons case.
I’ve written before about how much I love this mix of tones — it’s funny and warm one moment, then weirdly dark and philosophical the next. Watching their relationship unravel and rebuild while chasing this mystery gives the show a heart you don’t expect from something that also throws in time loops, conspiracy theories, and sci-fi storylines. It’s like “The White Lotus” went off its meds — in the best way possible.
So why haven’t more people watched it? Your guess is as good as mine, but I can take a stab at it. Maybe the marketing leaned too hard into the mystery and didn’t tease the chemistry between Miliotia and Harper or the sci-fi twists that make it unique? It got a Comic-Con panel, a quick trailer drop, and even aired the show’s pilot on NBC about a month after it dropped on Peacock after an episode of “America’s Got Talent.” But by the time reviews started calling it one of Peacock’s smartest originals, it had already been buried under the streamer’s other juggernauts.
But if you give it a chance, you’ll see why it’s worth it. The mystery is fun, sure, but the real power of “The Resort” is how it handles big questions about memory, grief, and what it means to move forward. There are moments — Emma quietly admitting why she can’t let go of the past, Noah realizing he might not want to — that hit way harder than you’d expect in a show that also has action sequences and psychedelic visuals. It’s funny, heartfelt, and totally original, with Milioti delivering one of her best performances. If you’re tired of cookie-cutter dramas, this is the hidden gem on Peacock you need to watch.

The Resort
An anniversary trip puts a marriage to the test when a couple finds themselves embroiled in one of Yucatan’s most bizarre unsolved mysteries.
What is ‘The Resort’ about?
“The Resort” is about what happens when a couple tries to outrun the quiet disappointments of their life… and ends up running straight into something much bigger. Emma and Noah are on an anniversary trip meant to rekindle their marriage, but the vacation quickly spirals when they stumble onto evidence of a 15-year-old missing persons case.
What starts as curiosity turns into obsession, forcing them to confront not just the mystery, but everything they’ve been avoiding about themselves. There are some heavy themes here: grief, memory, and how relationships change when you stop pretending everything’s fine. It’s a murder mystery on the surface, but underneath it’s about two people deciding whether they’re still in this together.
Now, I’m a sucker for any show set at a tropical resort, but in this one, the location has a surreal edge. Bright beaches, crumbling jungle hotel ruins, and offbeat locals make it feel like anything could happen — and often does. The past bleeds into the present in strange ways, making the case feel less like a whodunit and more like a puzzle about time, memory, and what we choose to hold onto. It’s romantic, unsettling, and deeply human all at once. And it boasts one of the strangest and most satisfying endings I’ve seen for this kind of show. Don’t miss it.

Other underappreciated drama TV shows on Peacock
If you’re into “The Resort” and want more underrated dramas on Peacock, there are a few others you should check out. First, watch “Dr. Death.” My wife and I binged this, and I even considered it for this article. It’s like watching a car crash you can’t look away from. “Dr. Death” is a two-season true-crime series about dangerously incompetent surgeons, with Joshua Jackson delivering a quietly terrifying performance in Season 1 and Édgar Ramírez doing the same in Season 2.
Then there’s “A Friend of the Family.” This one’s based on the true story of a young girl manipulated by a family friend, with Anna Paquin and Jake Lacy giving standout performances. These are some of Peacock’s smartest and most ambitious originals and deserve some love!
