Beat the summer heat with the latest additions at Max! This August, truth is stranger than fiction, and HBO will premiere multiple documentary series and films, including the four-part Original “Chimp Crazy,” a new installment of the Emmy-winning “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears,” and the streaming premiere of the recent Cannes and Tribeca entrant “Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes.”

The rest of the month at Max includes the Season 3 premiere of the HBO/BBC One finance industry drama “Industry,” returning after a two-year hiatus, and the surprise “City of God” follow-up series “City of God: The Fight Rages On.” All of the new titles, from new series premieres to classic films joining the library, as well as any new games and matches available this month on Bleacher Report, will be available on either an ad-supported Max plan beginning at $9.99 per month or an ad-free plan beginning at $16.99 per month.

“Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes” | Saturday, Aug. 3

The new HBO Original Documentary, directed by Nanette Burstein (“Hillary”) will center around about 40 hours of recently unearthed audio interviews between Elizabeth Taylor and journalist Richard Meryman in 1964, using the late Hollywood icon’s voice to narrate her highly publicized personal life and storied career, “inviting audiences to rediscover not just a megastar of Hollywood’s Golden Age but a complex woman who navigated lifelong fame, personal identity, and public scrutiny on a global stage from early childhood.” The documentary also features the voices of Roddy McDowall, Debbie Reynolds, Richard Burton, George Hamilton, Sam Marx, and others. The feature-length documentary will premiere on both HBO and Max at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 3.

“Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears” | Tuesday, Aug. 6

The 18-time Sports Emmy Award-winning series packs up after hanging with the New York Giants during the offseason and heads out to summer camp with the Chicago Bears, the team’s first appearance on “Hard Knocks.” The new five-episode installment provides all-access coverage to the NFL team’s training this summer in Lake Forest, Illinois, led by general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus as they guide 2024’s first overall draft pick quarterback Caleb Williams, 2024’s ninth overall pick wide receiver Rome Odunze, and veteran players including DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Jaylon Johnson, and Montez Sweat into the new season. The first episode will debut on Aug. 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and Max with new episodes available every Sunday through Sept. 3.

“Industry” Season 3 | Sunday, Aug. 11

The industry insider drama series takes viewers inside “the blackbox of high finances” with a group of young bankers finding their individual identities within the bottles-and-models culture of an international bank’s London office. Kit Harington, Sarah Goldberg, Miriam Petche, Andrew Havill, Roger Barclay, Fady Elsayed, and Fiona Button join the third season with returning cast members Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, Ken Leung, Conor MacNeill, Sagar Radia, Indy Lewis, Adam Levy, Sarah Parish, Trevor White, Elena Saurel, and Irfan Shamji. A new episode will be available every Sunday through Sept. 29.

“Chimp Crazy” | Sunday, Aug. 18

HBO gets into monkey business with its new four-episode docuseries, which will debut a new episode every Sunday after its Aug. 18 debut. Self-nicknamed the “Dolly Parton of Chimps,” former nurse-turned-exotic animal broker Tonia Haddix sits at the center of the new documentary, which tracks the durings and afters of a wild cat-and-mouse game with authorities and an animal rights group.

“City of God: The Fight Rages On” | Sunday, Aug. 25

The 2002 critically acclaimed Brazilian crime epic gets a six-episode follow-up with returning cast members Alexandre Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Kiko Marques, and Edson Oliveira. Set 20 years after the events of the movie, the release of a young trafficker from jail puts Rio de Janeiro back into a power struggle as “residents find themselves trapped between traffickers, militia, businesspeople, and the government, but the need to break free from this cycle causes the community to unite around a project to confront the oppressor.” New cast members include Andréia Horta, Marcos Palmeira, Jefferson Brasil, Eli Ferreira, Luellem de Castro, Otávio Linhares, Rafael Lozano, Leandro Daniel, and Luiz Bertazzo.
