Disney+ unveils streaming date for ‘Toy Story 5’
The toys are back in town this fall on Disney+, a little earlier than The Streamable predicted.
Toys versus tech is a playtime showdown for the ages, and fans flocked to movie theaters this summer to see Woody and the gang face their biggest threat yet in “Toy Story 5.” The film did huge numbers at the box office, and Disney has finally revealed when it will be available to stream with a Disney+ subscription at home.
Key Details:
- Arriving soon: “Toy Story 5” hits Disney+ on Sept. 23.
- Early arrival: The movie will hit the streamer a couple of weeks ahead of The Streamable’s predicted date.
- Superstar tie-in: An animated video for Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” will arrive ahead of the film’s release.
Disney+ will begin streaming “Toy Story 5” on Wednesday, Sept. 23. In all, that means the film will have taken a 96-day trip through theaters before heading to the Disney streaming service; “Toy Story 5” is also available for digital rental or purchase.
“Toy Story 5” follows Andy’s old toys as they begin their new lives at Bonnie Anderson’s house. Things are hunky-dory for the group — until everything changes when Bonnie’s mom brings home a new Lilypad tablet computer for the girl. When toys meet tech, nothing will be the same — especially playtime.
We thought “Toy Story 5” might get a slightly longer theatrical window before heading to streaming. When the film was released, The Streamable predicted that “Toy Story 5” would stream on Disney+ on Oct. 17, around 3 weeks after its actual debut. So, we were off by a little bit, but we won’t complain if the film arrives early!
Taylor Swift’s single “I Knew It, I Knew You” is a critical part of the movie’s soundtrack, and will release a new animated music video for the song ahead of the “Toy Story 5” bow on Disney+. The full video debuted on Disney+ Spotify and Apple Music on Thursday morning and is now available to watch.
