VidAngel Review
VidAngel is a video streaming service that taps into your streaming subscriptions and filters out all the “bad stuff.” With customizable filters, language that you don’t want to hear or images you don’t want to see are automatically removed from what you are watching. While it doesn’t work for every service, movie, or TV show, there are thousands of titles available to filter – ranging from new releases to older films.
The VidAngel interface shows titles available to be filtered with your subscription with how many filters can be applied to each title. These filters include settings for Language, Sex, Nudity, Violence, Blood, Gore, Drug Use, and “Other” (such as bodily functions / jokes, vulgar gestures, and even opening and closing credits).
VidAngel also comes with Dry Bar Comedy (a $40 / yr value), The Chosen TV series (VidAngel is the backer of Angel Studios, the production company that made the series), and other original content for free.
Content
Originals
While VidAngel itself doesn’t have originals, you will have access to Angel Studios productions along with Dry Bar Comedy.
Features
VidAngel’s biggest feature is their only feature: Filtering. The content you can watch via VidAngel is done through a subscription of another streaming service (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Paramount+) and works on your smart TV or browser. Unfortunately, you’ll find that VidAngel doesn’t work with Disney or NBCUniversal properties (like Disney+ or Peacock) because of a four-year legal battle which was settled in 2021. Nonetheless, there are still thousands of TV shows and movies to watch “clean” versions of.
Up to 6 Profiles
As of now, VidAngel allows you to create up to 5 additional profiles per account. The account holder is able to manage profiles and set specific filters for each profile. This allows family members to have different levels of what is acceptable for viewing.
Parental Controls
Once you set a PIN on your account, you can set viewing restrictions based on profiles. To override the filter, you can enter your PIN to unlock the restrictions.
Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Max, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount Plus, Peacock, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, and STARZ also have parental control features.
No International Access
VidAngel does not let you to watch content when traveling internationally.
