Watch new season of ‘Mayfair Witches,’ football, more this week
There’s plenty of college and pro football to watch this week, alongside some great new shows and films.
Have you lost track of the days yet? With all the time off during the holidays, it can be really hard to keep track of which day is which between Christmas and New Years. Sometimes, the only way to distinguish one day from another is to use new TV and movie premieres to remember what’s happening when.

Monday, Dec. 30
‘For Life’ series premiere | Acorn TV
This may seem like a bit of an off-the-wall selection for some, especially since it’s not only on a British TV streaming service but it’s also a Norwegian-language series, meaning you’ll almost certainly want to watch with subtitles. Nevertheless, the premise is highly intriguing, especially for fans of the British police procedural.

Acorn TV is an excellent choice for viewing television programming (and the occasional film) produced outside the United States, primarily content from the United Kingdom. The service also creates original content and has a library of hundreds of TV shows. Of particular note are their award-winning mysteries and dramas. Popular hits include “Happy Valley,” “Line of Duty,” “Murdoch Mysteries,” “MIdsomer Murders,” and “Poldark.”
“For Life” follows Victoria Woll, a former police detective, who is in jail. Fifteen years earlier, she is working with colleagues Ayla and Kit on the murder of Siv Bakke, who is found dead in the woods. Siv’s daughter manages to escape the killer.

College Football Playoff quarterfinal, Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Boise State Broncos | ESPN, stream with a five-day free trial of DIRECTV STREAM
This is one of the most anticipated matchups in the entire College Football Playoff. Penn State is led by quarterback Drew Allar, who already looks like he’s bound for the NFL. Penn State smashed the SMU Mustangs in its opening CFP game and is ready to advance even further.

This should be a great game for all fans of college football, even if their team didn’t make it into the dance.

A psychological thriller starring Casey Affleck and Laurence Fishburne, “Slingshot” follows an elite trio of astronauts aboard a years-long, possibly compromised mission to Saturn’s moon Titan. As they get closer and closer to their destination, things aboard the spacecraft begin to unravel for one of the crew.
As the team gears up for a highly dangerous slingshot maneuver that will either catapult them to Titan or into deep space, it becomes increasingly difficult for one astronaut to maintain his grip on reality. Will he recover in time to ensure the safety of his fellow crewmates?

‘Lockerbie: A Search for Truth’ premiere | Peacock

As events spiral out of control, it falls to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces – or Wallace may never be able to invent again! Worse yet, he might find himself in jail thanks to the sinister machinations of McGraw, who is bent on revenge no matter the cost.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers | ESPN+
This special Saturday NFL game is a great way for fans to start wrapping up the regular season. The Bengals are still technically alive in the playoff hunt, led by quarterback Joe Burrow’s MVP-level season, but they’ll need to win the game and get some help to make it in.
The Steelers have already punched their ticket for the postseason, but are looking for one more win to enter the playoffs with some momentum and potentially derail the ambitions of a division rival. This should be a fantastic matchup, one that all fans of the league will be able to enjoy.

‘Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches' Season 2 premiere | AMC+
Based on bestselling author Anne Rice’s “Lives of the Mayfair Witches,” Season 2 of Mayfair Witches continues the journey of the witch Rowan Mayfair (Alexandra Daddario) after she has unwittingly given birth to the demon Lasher (Jack Huston).
She is determined to understand what he has become — is he a mortal human, or a horrific monster? — and to use him to fulfill her purpose as a healer, but when tragedy strikes, she must put aside her own desires and fight to protect her family over the course of Season 2.
