Does Peacock have rules to stop password sharing?
Does Peacock have rules to stop password sharing?
Most streamers don’t allow viewers to share their accounts. What about Peacock?
Peacock is a great family streaming service, and it would be little wonder if customers of the service want to continue watching it once they leave the household of the account owner. After all, Peacock not only carries its own originals and next-day programming from NBC, it also has a wide array of top sports content available to stream.
The temptation to use Peacock outside the home of the account owner may be extreme, but what happens if you indulge that temptation? Does Peacock allow for the use of its platform outside the home of the one paying for the account? Find out more here.
What you need to know about password sharing rules on Peacock
Does Peacock allow you to share a password?
No, sharing passwords on Peacock is not allowed. The streamer explicitly declares in its terms of service that a Peacock account is meant only to be used within the home of the person paying for that account, and is not intended to be shared outside the home in any way.
Section 1.6 of the Peacock terms of use states: “Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. “Household” means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence.”
How does Peacock enforce password-sharing restrictions?
Peacock seems to be enforcing its password-sharing rules with a light touch, at least for now. The service will notify the account owner when a sign-in outside the home occurs, sending them an email to let them know that a login occurred at another geographic location.
The most stringent streaming services, when it comes to password sharing, such as Netflix, force a user to reset their home location if too many logins from another location outside the main household are detected. Peacock is not using measures that extreme for the present, however.
Will Peacock add more strict password-sharing rules?
NBCUniversal is in the process of spinning off most of its cable channels into a separate company called Versant, in order to spend more time focusing on assets it sees as key to its future, such as Peacock. That could well mean an increased focus on preventing Peacock subscribers from sharing passwords in the future.
