Apple TV’s ‘The Savant’ is back on the release calendar
The political thriller series had been postponed following the death of right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk.
Good news for Jessica Chastain and thriller fans who were hoping that Apple TV wouldn’t completely forget about the shelved series “The Savant.” Chastain, the show’s star, has confirmed that Apple will be releasing the show this summer, after it was pulled from the schedule last year in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder.
Key Details:
- It’s coming: “The Savant” star Jessica Chastain has confirmed the show will be released.
- Keep waiting: Apple will release the series some time in July.
- Too close for comfort: The series was delayed following the murder of Charlie Kirk.
At the Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Santa Monica, Chastain confirmed to Variety's Marc Malkin that “The Savant” will be released, after months of uncertainty about the show’s ultimate fate.
Apple then informed Variety that the show would be released sometime in July, though no specific date was given. The show stars Chastain as an investigator who goes online to infiltrate political hate groups in order to prevent domestic terrorism.
The show was originally to be released in September, but the murder of right-wing podcaster and activist Charlie Kirk occurred just days before the show was initially scheduled to premiere. Apple felt that the show strayed too close to real-life events and that it was better to postpone the release.
“‘The Savant’ is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever,” Chastain said at the time. “While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon. Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when ‘The Savant’ is released.”
Now, the Oscar-winning actress will get her wish. Viewers will be able to stream “The Savant” on Apple TV this July. Subscription prices for the streamer are currently $13 per month for a plan that includes access to the full Apple TV on-demand library, all Formula One races and MLS games, and weekly MLB doubleheaders on Fridays.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
