Can You Stream ‘The Wild Robot’ At Home? When Will the Family-Friendly Movie Hit Peacock, Netflix?
Critics are raving about “The Wild Robot,” but audiences may have to wait a bit to stream it with a subscription.
Can audiences tame “The Wild Robot”? The new movie could be a box-office bonanza for its distributor Universal, and the ride begins on Friday, Sept. 27 when the movie is released in theaters. But when will it be available to stream on-demand at home? Keep reading and see what we think!
Key Details:
- “The Wild Robot” has compiled a critical score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- As Universal is distributing the movie, it will land on Peacock first.
- A wait of more than 100 days seems all but guaranteed for the film’s arrival.
Watch the Trailer for ‘The Wild Robot’:
“The Wild Robot” follows the story of ROZZUM unit 7134, “Roz” for short. After being shipwrecked on a deserted island, Roz finds the only companions available are the animals who live there. She quickly befriends them, forging a special relationship with a small gosling whose parents are tragically gone.
The movie’s premise may sound simple, but the story is told in an incredibly fresh and daring way according to reviewers. It currently sports a 98% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, who say the movie doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of the circle of life despite its status as a kids and family movie.
When Will ‘The Wild Robot’ Stream on Peacock and Netflix?
“The Wild Robot” is being produced by DreamWorks and distributed by Universal, which means that Peacock will be the first on-demand streaming service to get its hands on the film. Once the movie arrives on Peacock, it will stay there exclusively for four months before shifting to Netflix for a 10-month stay.
Past experience suggests that “The Wild Robot” will spend 100 days or more in theaters before moving to Peacock. Recent DreamWorks and Universal movies have all done so; “Kung Fu Panda 4” is just the latest example. It took 105 days to reach Peacock after first bowing in theaters, and “Trolls Band Together” had an even longer window of 118 days. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” made over $1 billion at the box office, and didn’t stream until 120 days after its initial release.
With those dates in mind, I think “The Wild Robot” will premiere on Peacock on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, a full 112 days after its initial cinematic debut. If that prediction is accurate, the movie will arrive on Netflix sometime in the middle of May.
