Clearing a frozen Hulu app on various streaming devices is a fairly simple task.

It’s happened to all of us at some point or other. You’re cruising along, watching your favorite show or movie on your smart TV when the app you’re using freezes. You click home, then try to start the app again, but it’s still frozen, and you’re left without the ability to continue streaming.

If this has happened to you, The Streamable feels your pain. If you’re looking to restart the Hulu app after a crash — no matter if you’re watching the on-demand service or Hulu + Live TV on the app — we’ll show you how to proceed on a variety of popular streaming devices below.

How to clear the Hulu app on smart TVs

How to clear the Hulu app on Apple TV

To clear up a frozen Hulu app on the Apple TV device, first make sure that you have the most current version of iOS software downloaded. If you do, and are still experiencing an issue with freezing, you’ll have to try and force quit the app.

To do this, double-tap the Home button quickly. When you do this, you’ll see windows representing all of the open apps on your device appear in a row on your TV screen. Scroll to the app you want to quit, then swipe up on the clickpad or touch surface to force quit. Press back or Menu on the remote to leave the app-switching view without quitting an app.

How to clear the Hulu app on Amazon Fire TV devices

If the Hulu app crashes on your Amazon Fire TV device, there are two main solutions to try. First, try forcing the Hulu app to stop. Use your remote to navigate to settings, then select applications. From there, you’ll want to hit Manage Installed Applications, then scroll to the Hulu app. Select it, and click Force Stop.

If this works, you’ll be able to stay logged into the Hulu app and resume watching. If it doesn’t, you’ll have to try clearing the app’s cache. This will log you out, but it will hopefully fix the problem.

To do so, go back into the Settings menu, then Applications and Manage Installed Applications. Scroll to the Hulu app, then click Clear Cache, followed by Clear Data. This should clear the cache for the app, resetting it and allowing you to stream once again when you log back in.

How to clear the Hulu app on Roku devices

If you own a Roku streaming stick, there are fewer options for clearing a frozen app. First, use your star button on the remote to make sure that there are no updates available.

If there are not, you’ll have to uninstall the Hulu app from your device. Turn the device off, wait a few seconds, then reconnect it to power. Once you’ve done that, you can add the Hulu app back to your Roku device to start streaming again. Undoubtedly, you’ll have to log back into Hulu to begin streaming on the app once again.

Hulu

Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

…

It offers a good selection of current TV shows, and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You will be able to watch most shows from networks like ABC and Fox, and cable channels like FXX, FXM, HGTV, and more.

The service has a base plan for $11.99 a month, or you can upgrade to their ad-free plan for $18.99 a month. For $89.99 a month, you can get Hulu Live TV from major cable channels, live locals, and regional sports networks.
