How to fix frozen Prime Video app on your device
If Prime Video locks up on your Amazon Fire TV, Roku, or Apple TV streaming player, we can help you fix it.
There’s no denying that even the most smoothly running streaming player on the market will sometimes have a glitch. Streaming apps and players aren’t infallible, and that can lead to annoying fritzes that leave you unable to watch your chosen TV show or movie. Prime Video isn’t immune to these types of technical issues, and if your Prime Video app freezes while you’re watching, we’ll show you how to fix the problem on the most popular streaming devices available.
How to fix Prime Video app when it freezes on your device
How to fix the frozen Prime Video app on Amazon Fire TV
If Prime Video becomes unresponsive on your Fire TV set or streaming stick, you have a couple of solutions available to you. You’ll want to try the Force Stop option first, as this will allow you to stay logged into your Prime Video account once you complete the process.
Use your remote to navigate to your Fire TV device’s settings, then click Applications. You’ll head to Manage Installed Applications, then click Prime Video. In the menu of options that pops up, click Force Stop.
If this doesn’t work, you’ll have to try clearing the app’s cache. This is a more drastic step since it will log you out of your account, but if it fixes the freezing issue it’s worth the few extra seconds of pain. Follow the same process as above; go to Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications. Scroll to Prime Video, and then click Clear Cache, then Clear Data. This will reset the app and should allow you to resume watching once you log in again.
How to fix the frozen Prime Video app on Apple TV
Your Apple TV 4K also makes it relatively simple to restart a frozen streaming app like Prime Video. Before doing so, however, make sure you have the most recent version of iOS software on your device.
Next, you’ll have to force quit the Prime Video app to get it unfrozen. To make this happen, double-tap the Home button on your Siri remote quickly. Doing so will open windows representing all of the active apps on your Apple TV device. Scroll to the Prime Video app, then swipe up on the clickpad or touch surface to force quit.
How to fix the frozen Prime Video app on Roku
Just like with Apple TV, you’ll want to make sure your software is up to date before trying to force quit on a Roku device. Use the star button on the remote when hovering over the app to make sure no updates are available.
If updating doesn’t fix the problem, you can uninstall the Prime Video app from your Roku device and then reinstall it. This should ensure your app will be unfrozen the next time you try to open it.
Alternatively, you can clear your Roku device’s cache to try and fix a frozen Prime Video app. Go to Settings, then System, then Advanced System Settings, and choose Network connection reset. Click Reset connection, then restart your Roku device, which will clear the temporary cache and data-causing issues.
