DIRECTV’s MiEspañol Genre Pack adds subscription to ViX Premium
DIRECTV’s MiEspañol Genre Pack adds subscription to ViX Premium
Following a March carriage deal with TelevisaUnivision, DIRECTV’s Spanish-language package will now include the ad-supported streamer.
If you are getting your Spanish-language program from DIRECTV’s recently launched Genre Packs, then you are about to get a premium upgrade. On Thursday, it was announced that the live TV streaming service would be adding access to the ViX Premium ad-supported plan for all MiEspañol Genre Pack subscribers. Not only will these users be able to stream the 60-plus channels already available in the Genre Pack, but now they will also be able to watch hit ViX original series, live sports, and tons of on-demand titles.
Key Details:
- More to watch: DIRECTV will make the ad-supported version of ViX Premium available to MiEspañol Genre Pack subscribers.
- Part of the plan: TelevisaUnivision and DIRECTV reached a carriage deal in March, which likely included ViX.
- Everyone gets a streamer: ViX joins Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, and Hulu as inclusions in DIRECTV’s Genre Pack offerings.

DIRECTV introduced its slimmed-down streaming packages earlier this year to allow customers to sign up for more focused channel lineups at lower prices. The goal is to get customers packages that contain only the channels they want to watch while not having to pay for content that they aren’t interested in. The addition of ViX Premium, the flagship streamer of TelevisaUnivision, to the MiEspañol Pack makes the plan’s $35 monthly price tag even more of a value.
In addition to all of the Spanish-language channels already included, like ESPN Deportes, Galavision, TUDN, and Univision, just to mention a few, subscribers will also be able to check out ViX hit originals like “Con Esa Misma Mirada” and “Papá Soltero.” ViX Premium also is the streaming home for hundreds of live sporting events in Spanish, like this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro Cup, Copa América Femenina, and Liga MX. With the addition, MiEspañol delivers extensive Spanish-language international soccer coverage, with access to over 20 leagues from 16 countries.
“MiEspañol is the premiere destination for Spanish-language entertainment,” DIRECTV chief marketing officer Vince Torres said. “The addition of ViX Premium with Ads makes the experience even better by bringing original series, hit movies, and live sports together with the content our customers already love. And with new Genre Packs that offer more choice and control, we’re giving our Spanish-speaking viewers a richer, more flexible, and more personalized TV experience.”
TelevisaUnivision and DIRECTV announced a new carriage deal in March, so this inclusion in the Spanish-language Genre Pack was likely part of those negotiations. On its own, an ad-supported subscription to ViX Premium costs $5 per month. However, the MiEspañol subscription will not increase from its $35 monthly rate despite now being “the most robust and affordable Spanish-language TV offerings in the U.S.” according to DIRECTV.
“With ViX Premium with Ads now available as part of the MiEspañol Genre Pack, we’re delivering even greater value to our partners and audiences by expanding access to the most comprehensive offering of premium Spanish-language content,” TelevisaUnivision EVP Mike Angus said. “Our commitment to delivering our industry-leading content to U.S. Hispanics wherever they are continues as we expand the reach and accessibility of Spanish-language offerings for our audience.”
DIRECTV currently offers five different Genre Packs, ranging from $20 per month to $70 per month. The MyKids Genre Pack costs just $20 monthly, the MyEntertainment Pack runs $35 per month (the same as MiEspañol), the MyNews Genre Pack is $40 per month, and the MySports option is $70 per month. Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and ESPN+ are all included in one or more of the Genre Packs.
