How to fix a frozen Disney+ app on popular devices

There are several ways to clear up a frozen Disney+ app on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku players.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
If Disney+ is frozen on your TV, take these steps to try to fix it.

If the Disney+ app freezes up on you, it’s likely a higher-stakes proposition than most other glitching streaming services. That’s because there’s a good chance Disney+ viewers are families with kids, and young ones are not always the most patient when it comes to a tech issue when they’re trying to watch “Bluey” or a Disney animated classic.

Luckily, The Streamable is here to help. If the Disney+ app has frozen up on your Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, or Roku device, we’ll give you instructions on how to fix the problem below.

How to fix frozen Disney+ app on various devices

How to clear a frozen Disney+ app on Amazon Fire TV

If you have an Amazon Fire TV or Fire stick device and your Disney+ app freezes, there are a couple of fixes available to you. You’ll want to try and Force Stop the app first, as this will allow you to stay logged into Disney+ once you clear up the freezing problem.

To Force Stop Disney+ on Fire TV, open your device’s Settings menu, then go to Applications, and Manage Installed Applications. When you click that, you’ll see a variety of options; scroll to the Disney+ app, and then click the Force Stop option.

Should this fail to solve the problem, you can also clear the app cache — though this will log you out of Disney+ on your Fire TV device. Go through Settings, Applications, and Manage Installed Applications again, and when you get to Disney+, select Clear Cache. Click Clear Data, and restart the Disney+ app.

How to fix frozen Disney+ app on Apple TV

The Apple TV 4K streaming player also makes it simple to clear up a frozen Disney+ app. To do so, you’ll have to double-tap the Home button on the Siri remote. Doing so will call up a screen displaying all the active apps on the device. Scroll over to the Disney+ app, and then swipe up on the clickpad or the touch surface to force the app to quit.

It’s a good idea to ensure your tvOS software is updated as well, as not doing so could cause Disney+ and other streaming apps installed to work at less-than-peak proficiency.

How to fix frozen Disney+ on Roku

Unfortunately, your Roku device or smart TV will make you take a little more time to fix a terminally frozen Disney+ app. Before this is necessary, however, scroll to the app on your Roku home screen and press the star button to ensure no updates are available.

If your app is up to date and still frozen, you’ll have to uninstall and reinstall it from your Roku device. This process will take a few minutes, but it should restore Disney+ to full working order.

Roku devices also allow users to clear their cache if needed. To do this, head to Settings, choose System, then click on Advanced System Settings. Click Network connection reset, then Reset connection, and restart your Roku device to solve the problem. This may sign you out of Disney+ and other apps, but it’s a good last-resort solution.
