Here’s how to use your DVR with DIRECTV
We’ll give you instructions for recording shows, fill you in on DIRECTV’s DVR restrictions, and more here.
DIRECTV is trying everything it can to help audiences watch the content they want in one place, and for one price. Customers who sign up for a DIRECTV streaming package get access to potentially dozens, or even hundreds, of channels with their plan, adding up to more content than they could conceivably watch in a day.
With that being the case, it would certainly be convenient if DIRECTV had a Cloud DVR service to help viewers record and save titles for later. Does it have such a service? How much does it cost? We’ll give you all the details you need to know about using DVR on DIRECTV here.
Everything you need to know about using DIRECTV’s DVR
Do all DIRECTV streaming plans have DVR?
Yes, all DIRECTV Signature and Genre channel packages include unlimited Cloud DVR, whether you sign up to receive your plan through your own streaming device or you opt to get a Gemini player from DIRECTV when you register your account.
What about DIRECTV satellite plans?
Customers who receive their channel package through a DIRECTV satellite dish do not get Cloud DVR storage, and thus their storage space is limited by the device sent to them by the company. Viewers may find themselves limited to 200 hours of recorded HD content or less with DIRECTV satellite plans.
How to record a show or movie with DIRECTV
You can record titles airing live with an Amazon Fire TV or Roku device by opening the DIRECTV app and pressing OK on the remote. This will bring up the video player; use the right arrow to select Record, press OK, and follow on-screen prompts.
On a mobile device or computer, go to the DIRECTV app and tap the show you want to watch. Choose Record (on Android devices, select the three-dot menu first).
On Apple TV or Samsung TV devices, open the DIRECTV app and scroll down to see all options. Swipe right to highlight your choice, and then select Record.
For titles airing later than you want to record, go to DIRECTV and click Guide. Find the show you want to record, and click the Record button.
How to watch recorded titles on DIRECTV
Open the DIRECTV app on your chosen platform, and click My Library. Scroll through to see your recorded titles and select what you want to watch.
How to delete recordings from DIRECTV
