Vin Diesel’s ‘Fast & Furious’ TV show is officially a go
Diesel is executive producing the new series, but will he return as Dominic Toretto?
“The Fast and the Furious” is officially moving from the big screen to the small one. Peacock just greenlit the series with an eye to a 2028 release. Vin Diesel is executive producing, but there’s no confirmation that he’ll appear… though I can’t imagine he won’t! There’s no title yet, no cast members either, but the creative team is in place, and more details should be dropping soon. Here’s everything you need to know about “The Fast & Furious” TV series.
Everything you need to know about the ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series
When does the ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series come out?
That’s a good question, and right now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock is looking at a 2028 release date. They recently greenlit the series, so it’s still early days, but if that timeline holds, it’ll coincide nicely with the next movie, “Fast Forever,” which is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, March 17, 2028.
Can you watch the ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series for free?
Probably not, though that could change by 2028 if Peacock introduces a free trial. As it stands now, you’ll need a subscription to the service at the Premium tier for $13 per month (which includes ads) in order to watch Peacock originals like the “Fast & Furious” TV series. If you hate commercials, you can go ad-free for $20 per month.
Peacock
Peacock is a subscription video streaming service from NBCUniversal that includes original shows, blockbuster movies, and classic television series. Peacock is home to “Yellowstone,” “The Office,” and original hits like “Poker Face” and “Bel-Air.” You can also watch live sports and NBC programming, including the NFL, MLB, WWE, the Olympics, the Premier League, NASCAR, the French Open, college football and basketball, and the PGA Tour. Premium Plus subscribers can stream their local NBC feed in all 210 markets.
What is the ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series about?
That’s the question we all want an answer to! There are no details about the story yet, but because it takes place in the same universe as the movies, the writers have plenty to dig into. I’m hoping for a more grounded, underground racing story that goes back to the franchise’s roots. When Vin Diesel announced the project back in May, he talked about fans wanting to see more of the franchise’s existing characters and their stories. Whether that means a prequel about Dom’s early days or a story following one of the supporting characters from the movies, we don’t know. Just rest assured that whatever they do come up with, it’ll connect with the “Fast & Furious” world that already exists.
Who is making the ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series?
Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman are serving as co-showrunners, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, they’re also writing the pilot episode. Daniels previously worked on “Sons of Anarchy” and “Shades of Blue,” while Coleman has credits on “Shades of Blue” and “9-1-1: Lone Star.” Both Daniels and Coleman will executive produce alongside Vin Diesel.
How is the ‘Fast & Furious’ TV series connected to the movies?
It’s part of the same world as the “Fast & Furious” movies but Peacock hasn’t specified how it’s going to fit in. Whether it’ll be set in the present, future, or past isn’t clear, but Diesel has been pretty clear that he wants to expand the stories of the characters fans already love. The timing of the TV show dropping in the same year as the final film (at least in its current iteration) is also interesting. Could the TV show pick up where the final movie leaves off? Possibly. But for now, we have to wait and see.
