Does Apple TV have its own free TV app?

No, unfortunately, Apple TV does not come with a free TV hub like Roku or Fire TV devices do. These devices aggregate a selection of FAST channels into one place; for Roku, they are found in The Roku Channel streaming service, for example.

Apple TV has no such platform available, so anyone hoping to watch free streaming content using their Apple TV device will have to go the long way around to do so. Fortunately, there are still options for watching free live TV on an Apple TV player.

How to watch free TV on Apple TV

Most of the top free streaming services on the market, including Pluto TV, Tubi, and others, make dedicated apps for Apple TV devices. Apple TV owners can always download these apps and watch such services anytime they want to stream free TV.

To download a new app on your Apple TV device:

  1. Power up your Apple TV player and TV.
  2. Open the App Store.
  3. Search for the app you want.
  4. Download the app.
  5. Open it, and create an account if necessary.
  6. Start streaming!

Can you watch broadcast, cable channels with Apple TV?

If you want to watch over-the-air broadcast channels with an antenna, an Apple TV streaming device will neither help nor hurt you. All you have to do in that event is attach the antenna to your TV’s coaxial port, switch to that input on your TV, and scan for the channels you want.

You also have the option of watching live TV streaming services like DIRECTV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, or YouTube TV on Apple TV. You’ll need subscriptions to these various services, of course, but once you have them, you can download their respective apps and watch to your heart’s content.
