MLB.TV offers merchandise discount to subscribers after outage

MLB.TV had widespread outages on Opening Day, and is offering a credit of $10 to customers at its online shop as a result.

Opening Day was supposed to be a day of celebration for MLB fans across the United States. Twenty-eight of the league’s 30 teams were in action, but a large number of fans saw their broadcast interrupted while watching on the out-of-market games streamer MLB.TV. It experienced widespread technical difficulties, and to offset the disruption, MLB is giving fans a discount at the online MLB store.

Key Details:

  • Viewers can take $10 off a $25 purchase at the MLB shop with the discount.
  • Affected customers will find their special discount code in an email from MLB.
  • MLB.TV was down for more than an hour during Thursday’s game broadcasts.

To assuage the anger of fans who missed a good chunk of their favorite team’s games on MLB.TV last Thursday, MLB is offering a $10 credit off a qualifying $25 purchase at its online shop. Viewers who were affected will find the discount code in an email sent to the account associated with their MLB.TV subscription.

“Unfortunately, MLB.TV experienced a technical issue yesterday that resulted in a temporary inability to access our live game streams,” the email reads. “While our technical team addressed this issue immediately and restored access as soon as possible, we understand how disappointing this was to fans who were eagerly awaiting the start of the season. For that, we apologize. MLB fans deserve the best streaming experience possible and we will continue to strive to provide that.”

MLB.TV was down for more than an hour on Thursday, and thousands of customers were affected by the outage. The streamer delivers out-of-market game broadcasts for every team in the league, and also provides special in-market plans for multiple teams that no longer have a regional sports network (RSN) home.

Such live streaming troubles are usually reserved for streamers who don’t have a lot of experience with live events. Netflix has had its share of problems trying to deliver live events in the past few months, but MLB.TV is more accustomed to providing live game broadcasts. Fans are surely hoping that Thursday’s issues were the last time they will have to grapple with such problems this season.

MLB.TV

MLB.TV is the official streaming service of Major League Baseball. You can see every out-of-market game live or on-demand and choose home or away TV and radio feeds. The app allows fans to watch up to four games simultaneously on the same screen through its Multi-view feature. MLB.TV can be added to your Sling TV or Prime Video subscription.

Users can choose to follow the entire league for “All Teams” ($139.99) plan, which is also available for “All Teams” ($29.99) a month, or you can stream one team’s out-of-market games for “Single Team” ($119.99).

One major caveat about the service: Your local games may be blacked out through MLB.TV, so you may still need to watch through your local provider. As of 2025, MLB.TV does offer in-market plans for a handful of teams, including the New York Mets, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, and San Francisco Giants.

If you want to go beyond the games, MLB.TV provides features, documentaries, and classic games.
