Which new sports-focused streaming product is the winner?
Which new sports-focused streaming product is the winner?
We compare DIRECTV’s MySports package, the new Fubo Sports service, and Sling TV Passes to let you know which we think is best for watching major events.
The fall sports season has barely begun, and already we’ve gotten some unforgettable moments from the NFL and college football, plus there are several key MLB playoff races coming down to the wire. There are more channels and streaming services offering sports this fall than ever before, and three new products dedicated to delivering sports content to customers in a more holistic and focused way: the new Fubo Sports plan, the DIRECTV MySports Genre Pack, and Sling TV’s Passes.
Each of these products is specifically intended to help deliver top sports channels to viewers, while helping them save money by cutting out non-sports options. But which one does the best job, in The Streamable’s eyes? We’ll give you our thoughts in the form of a comprehensive review of each streamer’s strengths and weaknesses, and let you know which we recommend most highly below.
Which new sports streaming service do we recommend most?
What is DIRECTV MySports?
The MySports Genre Pack from DIRECTV is a package that comes with 20+ channels, depending on market; in Denver, the plan comes with 31 channels. It has ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC in my area, as it does in the vast majority of markets; the least-available channel in this quartet is CBS, which is available in 85% of areas around the United States with the MySports package.
MySports also includes a great selection of cable sports channels, including CBS Sports Network, the ESPN family of channels, FS1, [FS2][Fox Sports 2], Golf Channel, MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NHL Network, TBS, TBS, truTV, and more. In addition, the plan includes college sports networks like ACC Network, Big Ten Network, and SEC Network.
You’ll get news channels like CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC with the MySports plan, 4K programming, and a subscription to the ESPN Unlimited direct-to-consumer service with features like multiview at no extra cost.

What are Sling TV Passes?
Sling TV Passes allow viewers to watch Sling’s Orange package, with around 32 channels including ESPN, TNT, and more. That programming doesn’t include any local broadcast channels, though audiences can stream any live sporting events on ABC on ESPN3 via Sling Orange.
Sling offers day, weekend, and week Passes so you can stream this content for a short period of time only. You can pay $5 for a Sling Day Pass, $10 for a Weekend Pass that goes from Friday through Sunday, or a Week Pass for $15.
What is Fubo Sports?
Fubo Sports is a new service from Fubo that offers 29 channels in my area. It includes some local broadcast channels in a large selection of markets, as well as the ESPN and Fox families of cable channels. It also incorporates the Fox News channel, as that company usually requires its inclusion in smaller-sized sports packages like Fubo Sports.
Fubo Sports also comes with 4K streaming ability and a low starting price. It also includes the ESPN Unlimited streaming platform at no extra cost for subscribers.
Which streamer do we score most highly?
When comparing these products, it’s immediately clear that they all have strengths and weaknesses. However, one of the three consistently rises above the rest as we analyze which is the best way to go for sports fans.
Let’s start with a price perspective; we’ll ignore any promotional offers that may be available from time to time on these products, and go with their base prices for a more objective comparison. DIRECTV MySports is the most expensive at $70 per month, and Fubo Sports costs $56. Sling’s Passes cost $5 per day, $10 for a weekend, or $15 for a week.
But what do you get for your money? I think DIRECTV’s MySports has the best channel selection of these options by far. It has ESPN, FS1, and TNT all in one place, for a start — Fubo Sports doesn’t have any Turner channels, and Sling doesn’t have Fox Sports networks in the Orange package. Local channels are also much more widely available with MySports; it carries all four of the top broadcast networks in the vast majority of markets, whereas Fubo Sports doesn’t carry NBC, and Sling Orange has no local access anywhere.
MySports also comes with a five-day free trial for all new customers when signing up. Fubo Sports matches that trial as of the time of this writing, but historically, Fubo free trials have varied in length from one to seven days. Sling doesn’t offer a free trial of any kind for any of its products, including Passes.
You can add regional sports networks to MySports with the MyHome Team mini add-on pack for $20 extra per month, unlocking local NBA, NHL, and MLB games, or the MySports Extra pack for $13 if you want NFL RedZone and other channels. You cannot add NFL RedZone with a Sling TV Pass, even with the Sports Extra add-on, though you can pay $11 for Sports Plus with NFL RedZone on Fubo to add it to Fubo Sports. The Fubo platform also comes with add-on subscriptions to streamers like FanDuel Sports Network for watching regional sports content.
When stacking these services up, I think MySports comes out clearly ahead. It’s a bit more expensive than Fubo Sports, but it offers access to important channels that cover NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball, MLB, NHL, and more like NBC, TNT, TBS, and truTV that Fubo Sports doesn’t carry. It also has more news channels, with CNN and MSNBC in the mix.
MySports offers the flexibility of watching RSNs, NFL RedZone, and other niche sports networks through its add-on pack, and its free trial for new customers is always the same. Plus, you get to watch any 4K sports available on DIRECTV at no extra cost with MySports.
Each of these products does something a little different, and there’s a ton of sports on each one. But The Streamable thinks DIRECTV’s MySports is the way to go in pretty much every situation; it’s flexible, viewer-friendly, and has a huge selection of top sports channels available, plus unlimited Cloud DVR and access to the user-friendly DIRECTV app. Check it out for yourself, and let us know if you agree that it’s the best new sports product available this fall.
DIRECTV
DIRECTV is one of The Streamable’s top choices for the best live TV streaming service overall in 2026, especially for users who want the most channels or want to watch the most live sports. With an unbeatable lineup of local, news, sports, and entertainment channels, three main signature packages, an unlimited DVR, and 20 simultaneous streams at home, DIRECTV remains a premier choice for any cord-cutter.
