Peacock adds ability to add STARZ subscription to account
Peacock has long struggled to get a foothold with its own original content, so it appears to be turning to outside help to engage viewers on the scripted-front.
Peacock subscribers now have another way to build out their streaming bundle without leaving the app. On Tuesday, NBCUniversal and Starz announced that eligible Peacock customers can now add STARZ to their subscription for an additional $12 per month, adding premium programming to the ever-expanding slate of sports and Bravo-verse shows already found on the platform.
Key Details:
- Partners?: Peacock customers can now add a subscription to STARZ to their account for $12 monthly.
- Filing a gap: The move brings STARZ premium television programming to Peacock, which the NBCU platform currently lacks.
- And it to the list: Peacock is the latest service to add access to STARZ, joining the likes of Prime Video, Roku, and more.
For Peacock, the addition of STARZ helps round out a service that has struggled to find a consistent audience. Despite the fact that it has built a brand around its sports coverage — especially every two years during the Olympics — Peacock has yet to consistently prove able to turn a profit. However, by allowing customers to begin bundling the service with additional content, NBCU seems to be hoping to become more entrenched in the fabric of how cord-cutters stream.
The partnership gives STARZ another distribution outlet to go along with the likes of Prime Video and Roku. The add-on is available to subscribers on all three of Peacock’s subscription tiers, but at launch, they need to be billed directly through Peacock or through supported platforms and devices, with more options to come as the year goes on.
Later in 2026, Peacock will introduce a STARZ-specific content carousel, highlighting shows and movies available from the premium streamer, including hit franchises “Power,” “Outlander,” and more.
Later this year, Peacock will begin promoting STARZ shows and movies in dedicated rails within the app, making it easier for subscribers to discover what is available through the add-on. The introduction of STARZ Content gives Peacock something that it has long desperately needed: acclaimed, popular original content. While Peacock has relied on sports and next-day streams of NBC and Bravo series, it has yet to find any exclusive shows or movies to bring people to the service or to keep customers engaged.
“We’re excited to partner with Peacock in bringing STARZ as an add-on subscription to the platform for the first time ever,” STARZ Networks president Alison Hoffman said. “As a complementary premium service, STARZ is built to be distributed in a way that enhances and expands the value of a broader platform. With our compelling slate of hit original series for women and underrepresented audiences, alongside our vast portfolio of premium Pay 1 and library films, STARZ helps create a more complete and diverse offering for customers.”
The partnership comes at an interesting time, because in May, it was reported that NBCU and Starz had ended their Pay-2 movie window deal, meaning that Universal films would no longer stream on STARZ following their initial run on Peacock.
Nonetheless, the influx of popular content — even if it costs extra to access it — does appear to enhance Peacock’s value proposition to customers.
“This STARZ add-on subscription expands choice for our customers across all three tiers, provides flexibility for subscribers to enhance their experience on Peacock, and allows for deeper engagement with complementary premium content,” NBCU executive Will Gonzalez said. “We’re pleased to deliver even more value to customers and give them the opportunity to access more of what they want to watch right on our platform.”
For Peacock subscribers who already use the service as a sports, NBC, Bravo, and Universal movie hub, the STARZ add-on gives them a simpler way to fold another premium service into the same streaming experience. It also continues the industry’s shift toward platforms becoming centralized marketplaces, where customers can subscribe to multiple services through a single app rather than jumping between separate streaming accounts.
Customers can now add STARZ directly through their Peacock Account page. The $12 monthly price tag is the same as it would be to sign up for the service directly; however, STARZ is currently running a special for just $5 per month for the first three months, allowing cord-cutters to save 58% over their first quarter of service. However, Peacock is hoping to appeal to customers with the convenience and simplicity of keeping bills and signups in one spot as the selling point for this new partnership.
NBCU has not indicated that STARZ would be joined by other premium platforms as potential subscription add-ons, but as the vast majority of efforts for Peacock to attract viewers with its own efforts have failed, becoming a marketplace for other companies’ content would seem like the next logical way to bring quality titles to the platform.
