Roku’s ad-free streamer Howdy launches on Prime Video

Roku’s ad-free streamer Howdy launches on Prime Video

Customers can now add a Howdy subscription to their Prime Video account for just $3 per month.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.

Roku is attempting to help itself by helping the competition. The company announced on Tuesday that it was increasing distribution of its ad-free streaming service, Howdy, by offering the service through the Prime Video Subscriptions digital store.

Key Details:

  • Howdy, new partner: Prime Video will now offer the Howdy streaming service.
  • Low cost: Howdy costs $3 per month, and streams without ads.
  • Big library: Howdy offers tens of thousands of hours of entertainment, with content from major studios.

Howdy is an ad-free streaming service launched by Roku last August. The streamer costs $3 per month and offers over 10,000 hours of TV episodes and movies. It’s the only place to stream Roku original titles without ads, and it’s one of the most affordable commercial-free options on the market.

Viewers who sign up for Howdy through Prime Video can get a seven-day free trial — a benefit that isn’t available when customers sign up directly through Roku. Prime Video offers free trials to several services that don’t offer them directly; Peacock is another example.

“We’re delighted to launch the Howdy streaming service on Prime Video at an accessible price that delivers exceptional value,” Prime Video executive Ryan Pirozzi said. “This milestone advances our mission to make premium content widely available to our Prime Video customers. Our subscription business’s continued growth demonstrates that customers appreciate the choice, quality, and diverse programming we offer through Prime Video.”

Howdy teams with some of the most well-known studios in Hollywood to offer a fantastic streaming library. The service offers content from Disney Entertainment, FilmRise, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros. Discovery, along with select originals from Roku.

“Our goal has always been to make great entertainment more accessible,” Roku executive Gil Fuchsberg said. “Howdy offers quality content with no ads for just $2.99 a month, making it a superb value and an ideal complement to other subscriptions. We’re pleased with the response we’ve seen from our viewers and partners since launch. Expanding to Prime Video builds on our momentum and furthers our mission to deliver an ad-free streaming experience at a price that makes it easy for audiences everywhere to enjoy content they love.”
