The series focuses on an eccentric motley crew that is the Smith family and their three housemates: Father, husband, and breadwinner Stan Smith; his better half housewife, Francine Smith; their college-aged daughter, Hayley Smith; and their high-school-aged son, Steve Smith. Outside of the Smith family, there are three additional main characters, including Hayley's boyfriend turned husband, Jeff Fischer; the family's man-in-a-goldfish-body pet, Klaus; and most notably the family's zany alien, Roger, who is "full of masquerades, brazenness, and shocking antics."

About American Dad!
American Dad! centers around the Smith family, an eccentric group living in Langley Falls, Virginia, along with some unusual housemates. Stan Smith, the staunchly conservative CIA agent, leads the family which includes his loving but often overlooked wife, Francine. Their liberal college-aged daughter, Hayley, and socially awkward high-schooler son, Steve, round out the immediate family. Adding to the chaos are Klaus, a German man trapped in a goldfish's body, and Roger, a flamboyant and unpredictable alien with a penchant for disguises and mayhem. Hayley's sometimes clueless boyfriend turned husband, Jeff Fischer, also frequently finds himself caught up in the family's absurd adventures. Together, this motley crew navigates everyday life with hilarious and often outlandish results.
