When will ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Launch Star its way to streaming?
The movie will stream on Peacock first, then move to Netflix. But how long will it all take?
There’s a whole universe of familiar characters and locations to explore in “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” The sequel to 2023’s “Super Mario Bros. Movie” premiered in theaters on Wednesday, April 1, but when will it arrive on streaming? We’ll give you our best guess below!
Key Details:
- Expand the universe: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” introduces Fox McCloud and other fan-favorite Nintendo characters.
- Two stops: Peacock will stream the movie exclusively when it first leaves theaters, and Netflix gets it next.
- No warp zones: A wait of at least 100 days seems likely for the film to hit Peacock.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” finds the Mushroom Kingdom at peace. Mario and Luigi are hailed as heroes for defeating Bowser, whom they are trying to rehabilitate. But when Bowser Jr. kidnaps Princess Peach’s sister, the group is forced to travel across multiple galaxies to try to save her before the young villain can carry out his nefarious scheme. Along the way, they’ll get some help from new friends, including a star-crossed fox and a certain green dinosaur.
The movie reunites Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key as Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser, and Toad, respectively. Joining the voice cast are Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, Luis Guzman as Wart, Issa Rae as the Honey Queen, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

When will ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ be available to stream?
Thanks to a deal first struck in 2021, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will have two eventual streaming homes. As a Universal movie, the film will obviously stream on Peacock first when it leaves theaters. But Peacock only gets “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” for four months; then, it shifts to Netflix for an exclusive stay.
The Streamable correctly predicted the date that the first “Super Mario Bros. Movie” would premiere on Peacock. That film was a huge hit at the box office, pulling in more than $1 billion before it was finally shifted to streaming. It’s no wonder, therefore, that NBCUniversal opted not to put it on Peacock until it had amassed a theatrical stay of 120 days.
I don’t see any reason to deviate from that pattern for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” even if the film doesn’t quite match the box-office success of its predecessor. If the movie does stay in theaters for 120 days, that means it will be available to stream on Peacock on Thursday, July 30. Since Peacock often likes to release new movies on Fridays, I’ll tweak my prediction to Friday, July 31.
If that proves accurate, it means the film will be available to stream on Netflix starting sometime at the end of November, allowing the streamer to take advantage of holiday viewing windows.
