It’s a full month at Prime Video and Freevee! This August, get ready for the Season 2 premiere of Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Based partially on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Silmarillion” and set thousands of years before the events of the original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, the epic series covers the major events of Middle-earth’s Second Age, including the forging of the eponymous Rings of Power, the rise of the Sauron, and the last alliance between elves and men. The second season will premiere late in the month on Aug. 29, but first, take your own quest there and back again: on Aug. 1, both “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies will be available on the streamer.

The new month will also usher in the premiere of “Batman: Caped Crusader,” a new noir take on “Batman: The Animated Series” from original creator Bruce Timm. Plus, catch the new Paul Feig buddy comedy “Jackpot!” starring John Cena and Awkwafina, a new season of “Judy Justice,” Season 3 of the British procedural “The Mallorca Files,” and much more.

The Amazon streamer will also be the host of several major games and matches this month, including the NFL Preseason Week 3 matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals at Cincinnati, the first game of the 2024 Season that will be available to watch as part of Prime Video’s third year of Thursday Night Football coverage.

“The Mallorca Files” | Thursday, Aug. 8

The critically acclaimed British procedural series puts Welsh Detective Constable Miranda Blake (Elen Rhys) and German detective Max Winter (Julian Looman) back on the force for eight new episodes, investigating island crimes as their personal tensions and partnership are put to the test amid “high-stakes adventures, treasure hunts, arson, kidnappings, and murders.” The series also stars María Fernández Ache, Tábata Cerezo, Nacho Aldeguer, Carlos Olalla, Denis Schmidt, Alex Hafner, and more. All eight episodes will be available on the premiere date.

“Jackpot!” | Thursday, Aug. 15

The rhyming dynamic duo of John Cena and Awkwafina strike it rich in the Paul Feig-directed comedy. Set in 2030 Los Angeles, a newly established California Grand Lottery gives its residents the power to win big but with a catch: the winner will be hunted for their multi-billion jackpot and must survive until sundown. Desperate to survive the jackpot hunters after her accidental win, Katie joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel (Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of the prize. Also starring are Simu Liu, Ayden Mayeri, Seann William Scott, Dolly de Leon, Donald Elise Watkins, MGK, and more.

“No Gain No Love” | Monday, Aug. 26

The South Korean rom-com series stars Shin Min-a as Hae-yeong, a business professional who’s less successful in love and life and seeks out a fake wedding with her neighborhood convenience store clerk, Kim Ji-uk (Kim Young-dae) to avoid missing out on a promotion. Episodes will be released weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays on the streamer.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 | Thursday, Aug. 29

The battle against Sauron continues in the second season of Amazon’s big-budget “Lord of the Rings” prequel series, set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original trilogy during the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. After being cast out by Galadriel, “the rising Dark Lord must now,” per the official synopsis, “rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.” Morfydd Clark leads the international cast as Elven warrior Galadriel opposite Lenny Henry, Sara Zwangobani, Dylan Smith, Markella Kavenagh, Robert Aramayo, Benjamin Walker, Charlie Vickers, Ismael Cruz Córdova, and more. The first three episodes of the season will be available on Aug. 29, followed by a new weekly episode through Oct. 3.
