In January 2026, Peacock made a major announcement regarding the availability of premium audio and visual formats. As announced, Peacock will expand the availability of Dolby Atmos to live sports events for the first time, giving fans the ability to hear NFL, NBA, and other contests using the format.

But what about on-demand content? Does Peacock offer Dolby Atmos with those titles as well? We’ll explain all the details you need to know about premium audio formats on Peacock, including which you can use now, and which are coming in the future!

Everything you need to know about premium audio on Peacock

Which premium audio formats are available on Peacock?

Peacock offers 5.1 surround sound with a wide range of titles, as well as Dolby Atmos on a selection of TV shows and movies in its library. As mentioned above, over the course of 2026, Peacock will also be introducing Dolby Atmos support to live sporting events.

In addition, Peacock will adopt the new AC-4 audio codec when it launches. This will offer 50% greater efficiency than traditional codecs, improving the sound quality while listening to Dolby Atmos even further.

How to turn on premium audio with Peacock

There’s no need to make any adjustments to your settings to watch Peacock with premium audio. The streamer will automatically detect the best audio format your set-up can accommodate, and play your chosen content in that format.

Can all Peacock plans use premium audio?

According to Dolby's website, all Peacock subscribers can use Dolby Atmos. Only Peacock Premium and Premium Plus customers can watch live sports on the service, however.
