The conclusion of the epic musical saga will eventually stream on Peacock and Prime Video beginning next year.
Are you ready for a return to the land of Oz? The epic conclusion to the magical musical epic “Wicked: For Good” has landed in theaters. Based on the record-breaking Broadway juggernaut, the movie continues the story of Elphaba, the so-called Wicked Witch of the West, as she tries to save all of Oz from the land’s lying and manipulative Wizard. The movie is in theaters now, but if you can’t wait to defy gravity at home, we’ll break down when you will be able to stream the second film from your couch.

What is ‘Wicked: For Good’ about?
“Wicked: For Good” picks up following the incredible “Defying Gravity” closer from the first film as Elphaba throws herself into her battle against the Wizard, while Glinda grows into her new role as “Glinda the Good.” While their public personas seemingly put them at odds, their unique friendship remains intact, even from afar. As the events of “The Wizard of Oz” approach, Prince Fiyero’s heart takes him in directions that no one, including Glinda and Elphaba, expects.
Academy Award nominees Cynthia Eviro and Ariana Grande return as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, as the world’s Sexiest Man, Jonathan Bailey, is back as Fiyero, along with Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp.
Regardless of how any of these characters enter the film, there is no doubt that they will be changed… for good, if not for the better, by the time Dorothy leaves the land of Oz.

Where will ‘Wicked: For Good’ stream?
Since “Wicked: For Good” comes from Universal Pictures, after the studio decides to end its theatrical and premium video-on-demand (PVOD) runs, it will follow a contractually predetermined path through streaming services. As Peacock is also owned by NBCUniversal, the movie will first stream exclusively on the platform for four months.
Then, it will be available to stream with a subscription to Prime Video for 10 months. And finally, following its run on Amazon’s streamer, “Wicked: For Good” will fly back onto Peacock for another four months. From there, the movie will be available for NBCU to license to other streamers. However, given the power of the “Wicked” brand, it seems likely that Peacock will keep it as an exclusive for the foreseeable future.
When will ‘Wicked: For Good’ stream?
Trying to pin down theatrical windows can be a bit difficult, as the landscapes of movie theaters and streaming are constantly changing. However, since the first “Wicked” movie came out just one year ago, we have a pretty good template to determine what NBCU might do. The first installment of the epic musical story hit theaters on Nov. 21, 2024. From there, it came to PVOD platforms on New Year's Eve and finally arrived on Peacock on March 2, 2025.
This second film is likely to follow a similar release cadence; however, there are some additional factors to consider. The first movie had a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% and a Metacritic rating of 73, leading to 10 Academy Award nominations. While the follow-up is expected to be the largest box office opening of 2025, coming in between $150 and $180 million (compared to “Wicked’s” $112.5 million opening weekend), it has not enjoyed the critical success that the first one did. It currently sits at a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes and 60 on Metacritic. While those scores are far from terrible, they could mean that audiences won’t be as enthusiastic about the film, and thus, NBCU won’t keep it in theaters and on PVOD as long.
However, given the extreme popularity of the franchise, both on stage and screen, I think that we can comfortably assume that, unless the bottom completely bottoms out, “Wicked: For Good” is likely to be released on a similar schedule as the first.
That would mean that fans will be able to rent it digitally around Wednesday, Dec. 31 (though if the box office is slower, it could arrive ahead of Christmas), and then it would come to Peacock on Sunday, March 1, 2026. This date would differ in one major respect from last year’s. As in 2025, Oscar voting closed on Tuesday, Feb. 18, meaning that “Wicked” did not get the increased attention and buzz from its streaming premiere that might have influenced Academy voters.
However, for the 98th Annual Academy Awards, the voting period runs from Thursday, Feb. 26, through Thursday, March 5, 2026. So, if Universal does decide to take advantage of these calendar differences, perhaps the studio will move up the streaming release to the end of February, to keep it at the forefront of the minds of voters.
For now, though, given all of the factors, I am going to stick with the formula that NBCUniversal used to great success last year, and predict that “Wicked: For Good” will be available to rent on various digital platforms beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, and will stream on Peacock on Sunday, March 1, 2026. That would mean that it will eventually land on Prime Video on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, before coming back to Peacock — presumably to stay — on Saturday, May 1, 2027.
