Xfinity now offering new Sports & News TV package for $70
The plan will offer a good selection of channels, while also trimming the fat of a standard cable plan somewhat.
Comcast has clearly had an eye on DIRECTV lately. The satellite and streaming company launched its new MySports package earlier this month, and it includes access to 40 sports and local broadcast channels for $70 per month. Now, Comcast’s Xfinity is answering with its new Sports & TV News package, which will provide a similar channel inventory for the same price, and will include access to the Peacock streaming service as well.
Key Details:
- Xfinity’s Sports & News TV plan comes with 50+ channels including locals, as well as ESPN and FS1.
- The plan comes with 300 hours of Cloud DVR storage and 100+ free streaming channels.
- As of now, the plan is only available to linear Xfinity cable customers.
Choose $15 OFF each month for the first 2 months of Entertainment with Sports Pack or $20 OFF each month for the first 3 months of Choice or Ultimate.
The Xfinity Sports & News TV plan is now available for new and existing Xfinity TV customers. The package comes with local broadcast channels like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC, unlocking NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL games that appear on those channels, as well as college football and basketball.
More college and pro sports events are available thanks to the inclusion of ESPN, FS1, ACC Network, Big Ten Network, SEC Network, and more. Viewers also get access to Peacock as part of the package, unlocking all the sports streaming there including “Sunday Night Football,” Big Ten football and basketball, Premier League soccer, and much more.
The plan also comes with CNBC, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC for those who need more than just their local broadcast channels for news sources. In all, the package carries 50+ channels for its $70-per-month price tag, plus 300 hours of Cloud DVR storage and 100+ free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels.
“With Sports & News TV, we’ve brought together top networks for live sports and news and Peacock, the best streaming service for sports fans, to create a new video bundle packed with the best content at an unbeatable price, all accessible within a premium viewing experience that makes it easy for customers to find the content they care about most,” Comcast SVP John Dixon said. “Sports & News TV is a terrific option for customers looking for a great value in entertainment without sacrificing their favorite live sports and news channels.”
The plan appears to compare favorably to the MySports plan from DIRECTV in that it has more pay-TV channels, but otherwise, the two are highly similar. They’re both $70 per month, and like Xfinity’s Sports & News plan, MySports comes with free access to a streaming service — or it will soon. Following the launch of MySports, customers will get ESPN+ at no extra charge as part of their subscription. MySports also comes with unlimited Cloud DVR, so it edges out the 300 hours viewers will get with the Sports & News package.
As of now, it doesn’t appear that the Sports & News TV plan will be sold to viewers directly as a streaming bundle, and will only be available to linear Xfinity cable customers. Viewers can still bundle the plan with the StreamSaver combo, unlocking Netflix and Apple TV+ for an additional $15 per month.
