DIRECTV’s genre packs get C-SPAN channels, MLB Strike Zone, more
The new channel additions add to an already potent lineup of genre-specific options.
In many ways, the new genre-specific packages on DIRECTV STREAM are a pretty interesting experiment. Although they don’t provide true a la carte channel selection, they come as close as any pay-TV subscription ever has to that goal. DIRECTV is continuing to augment those channels with greater selection as well, and this week is adding some important networks to its category-specific plans.
Key Details:
- The DIRECTV MyNews package is getting both C-SPAN and C-SPAN 2.
- The MySports Extra add-on will welcome MLB Strike Zone.
- Ovation is joining the MyEntertainment plan.

The new additions to DIRECTV STREAM’s programming lineup start with the introduction of C-SPAN and [C-SPAN 2][CSPAN 2] to the MyNews package. This plan already comes with national cable news networks such as CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC, as well as local Fox and NBC affiliates in most markets, and costs $40 per month.
Next up, the DIRECTV MySports Extra add-on pack will add MLB Strike Zone, which is very similar to NFL RedZone. It whips around the league, taking viewers to every current live game, giving viewers current standings, important stats, and more, all without commercials. The MySports Extra add-on also includes RedZone during football season, as well as the cricket network Willow TV and much more for $13. The MySports base package is $70 per month.
Finally, DIRECTV is introducing the Ovation channel in its MyEntertainment plan. This channel is all about the arts, offering a mix of acquired and original television series in hopes of boosting cultural awareness and action in that field. The MyEntertainment package offers around 40 channels, plus subscriptions to ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu for $35 per month.
These additions from DIRECTV STREAM were first teased last week, and they’re just the latest boost to the company’s genre-specific packages as well. In March, the streamer launched an additional add-on for its MySports customers to allow them to watch regional sports networks, and last week it also welcomed ad-supported Max as a no-cost bonus for customers of the MyEntertainment plan.
