Everything You Need to Know About ‘Thursday Night Football’ on Prime Video
Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit are back for another season of ‘TNF’ broadcasts, but what else do fans need to know?
The entire NFL has now played one regular season game, and we’re on to Week 2! It begins with the first “Thursday Night Football” game of the season on Sept. 12, when the Buffalo Bills travel to Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video. This AFC East rivalry is a great way to start the 2024 “TNF” season, but what else do you need to know about Prime Video’s weekly football streams before the season starts? We’ll take you through it all below!
‘Thursday Night Football’ Details:
Who Does the Pregame Show for ‘Thursday Night Football’?
“TNF” has assembled a very knowledgeable team to handle pregame analysis for every contest. NFL veterans Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman, and Andrew Whitworth are staples of “TNF” pregame coverage, and Marshawn Lynch is a frequent contributor. Clarissa Thompson has been an anchor of “TNF” pregame activities since Amazon took over exclusive broadcasts of Thursday games in 2022.
Who Calls ‘TNF’ Games?
Prime Video spared no expense in assembling a good team for “TNF.” Al Michaels is now in his fifth decade working in television and handles play-by-play duties. Kirk Herbstreit, who many fans will know from ESPN’s College Game Day is the color commentator, and Kaylee Hartung reports the latest news and injury updates from the sideline. Former NFL referee Terry McAulay is the rules analyst, giving fans the lowdown on confusing calls and crucial penalties.
Are There Alternate Broadcasts of ‘TNF’?
Prime Video has offered several alternate streams of “TNF” in the past, headlined by its “Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats” broadcast. This alternate cast offers different camera angles to allow fans to see the full field, using AI to track data points like player speed, how open receivers are, which player on defense could potentially blitz, and more.
In past seasons, “TNF” has also included alternate streams hosted by YouTube trick shot artists Dude Perfect, as well as a stream presented by LeBron James and the rest of the crew at “The Shop.” There hasn’t been any confirmation from Amazon that they’re returning for the 2024 season yet, but last year these alt casts weren’t brought back to “TNF” until October, so there’s a good chance we’ll see them again this year.

Can You Watch ‘TNF’ Anywhere Besides Prime Video?
If you don’t have a Prime Video subscription and are hoping to watch “TNF” on NFL Network or another national channel, you’re out of luck. National broadcasts of Thursday night games went exclusively to Prime Video ahead of the start of the 2022 season.
However, the one exception is if you live in the market of one of the teams playing in a given week, you will be able to watch the game on a local broadcast channel. Check your local listings to see which channel holds those rights; it will probably be the same network that offers your team’s preseason games in your area.
Can You Try Prime Video for Free?
Yes, you can! If you are a new Amazon customer, you can sign up for a Prime subscription and get a 30-day free trial of all of its benefits, including Prime Video. Not only will you be able to watch four weeks of “TNF” free, but you’ll also be able to stream Prime Video originals like “The Boys,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Reacher,” “Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan,” “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and many others.
Once the trial is over, you can keep the full Prime subscription for $14.99 per month, or cancel and just keep Prime Video starting at $8.99 per month. The service comes with limited ads during playback on this tier, but customers can upgrade to ad-free service for $11.99.
