Apple TV+ frozen? Here’s how to fix the app

We’ll show you how to unstick a frozen Apple TV+ stream on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku devices.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
This guide will show you how to fix a frozen Apple TV+ service on your streaming device.

Apple TV+ has no qualms about operating a little differently than other streaming services do. On the content side, Apple TV+ offers only exclusive, original TV shows and movies, and unlike other streamers, it has essentially no licensed content in its library.

But Apple TV+ also works differently from other streamers in that it does not have a dedicated app of its own. It lives inside the Apple TV app, and while that distinction may seem small, it’s key to know if Apple TV+ freezes up on you while you’re trying to stream it on an Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, or Roku device. If that does happen, we’ll show you how to fix it below!

How to fix frozen Apple TV+ on popular streaming devices

How to fix frozen Apple TV app on Amazon Fire TV

If the Apple TV app freezes on your Fire TV device, there are two fixes available to you that should help you solve the problem. The first is Force Stop; this will allow you to unfreeze your Apple TV app without being logged out.

To Force Stop the Apple TV app, open your Fire TV Settings, then click Applications, then Manage Installed Applications. You’ll see the Apple TV app here, and you’ll want to scroll to it and click it. Click Force Stop to reset it and hopefully clear up your freezing issue.

If this doesn’t work, you’ll have to try clearing the app’s cache. Go back into Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications again, and click on Apple TV. Select Clear Cache, then Clear Data. You’ll have to log back into Apple TV once you do this, but you should be all set.

How to fix frozen Apple TV app on Apple TV 4K

There’s a delightful symmetry to streaming Apple TV+ on an Apple TV device, but of course, if your app freezes, that satisfaction goes out the window!

Should that happen, you’ll want to press the Home button on the Siri remote twice in rapid succession. Doing so will pull up a screen of all the active apps on your device; scroll to Apple TV, then swipe up on the touch surface or clickpad to force the app to quit.

How to fix frozen Apple TV app on Roku

The first thing you’ll want to do for a frozen Apple TV app on a Roku device is to check for updates for that app. To do this, navigate to the app on the Roku home screen and click the star button on your Roku remote when highlighting it.

If the app is updated, scroll back to it and click the star again. Choose Uninstall, then reinstall the app to fix a freezing issue.

There are a couple of other tricks Roku device owners can use to reset and try to get frozen apps back to normal. First, try pressing the home button on your Roku remote five times in a row, followed by up once, rewind twice, and fast forward twice. This should restart your device and hopefully smooth out any frozen apps.

Alternatively, you can clear the cache of your Roku device by opening Settings, then scrolling to System. Click Advanced System Settings, then Network connection reset, then Reset connection. Once you restart your Roku player, the cache will be cleared, and you will be able to stream Apple TV+ through the Apple TV app once again.

Apple TV

Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

…

In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to exclusively broadcast all Formula 1 races starting with the 2026 season.

Apple TV also features coverage of all regular-season matches for Major League Soccer (MLS) at no additional cost.

On August 28th, 2026, the price of Apple TV was increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month, the second increase in as many years.

The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost.

With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices.
