The Google TV Streamer 4K device, and news regarding a price increase.

The good old days are over for the Google TV Streamer 4K. The device that launched in 2024 to replace Chromecast dongles at a retail price of $100 is becoming 50% more expensive; Google has raised the price of the Google TV Streamer 4K to $150, following the lead of Amazon and Roku in ratcheting up the cost of their most popular streaming hardware due to worldwide shortages of RAM.

Key Details:

  • Next up: The Google TV Streamer 4K has risen in price to $150.
  • Still rolling out: The price increase is live for some retailers, but not others.
  • Not alone: Amazon and Roku have also raised prices on their streaming hardware in the last month.

The Google TV Streamer 4K is rising from a retail price of $100 to $150. However, not all retailers have implemented the new price as of publication time. Currently, Amazon still reflects the $100 rate, but other sources like Best Buy and the Google Store have already rolled out the new price as of Tuesday morning.

There has been no official announcement from Google as to why the price of the Google TV Streamer 4K is increasing. The most likely culprit is the ongoing shortage of RAM, which has been exacerbated by efforts to ramp up AI data center construction.

Google is hardly the first company to increase its hardware prices because of the scarcity and high price of RAM. Last week, Amazon raised the price of Fire TV players and other devices, and a few weeks earlier, Roku hiked prices by as much as $50.

The Google TV Streamer 4K is one of the more RAM-intensive streaming devices on the market, using 4GB. It uses the Google TV operating system, which is built on top of Android TV and allows viewers to download all their favorite streaming apps, watch free TV, see personalized recommendations, and much more.
