Monumental Sports joins new DIRECTV pack, slashes DTC annual price
The channel is now available on DIRECTV’s MyHome Team mini-pack, and the Monumental+ app is lowering its annual subscription price as blackouts roil access.
Fans of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards faced a new pain point on Wednesday morning, when they learned that Monumental Sports Network had been blacked out on two of the largest live TV streaming services: Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. The blackout threatens the debut of the Capitals on Oct. 11 and the Wizards on Oct. 22, but the channel is making moves to help ensure fans can watch games with no interruption when the NBA and NHL seasons begin.

Monumental is trying to expand access to its content in a multitude of ways. First, the company is lowering the price of its direct-to-consumer app Monumental+. This service costs $20 per month, and also has an annual plan that formerly cost $200 per year. The streamer is now discounted to $180 per year, a savings of $60 off what you’d pay to stay month-to-month for a full year.
The Monumental+ app is available to everyone in the D.C. metro area who has geographic access to the Monumental Sports Network linear channel. It’s available on a wide range of devices, and the footprint stretches south of Richmond, Virginia, and as far north as Delaware. The channel offers more than just Capitals and Wizards games; it also carries the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the NBA G League’s Capital City Go-Go, and a comprehensive schedule of original programming and live college football, college basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball, high school basketball, esports, as well as Washington Spirit (NWSL) and Old Glory DC (Major League Rugby) games.
In addition to the lower price of the Monumental+ annual plan, the regional sports network has expanded its distribution with DIRECTV. The channel was previously found in the company’s Signature CHOICE plan, but was not available for customers of the MySports Genre Pack. Now that has changed, as Monumental Sports Network has been added to the MyHome Team mini-pack, which is an add-on that’s available exclusively to MySports customers.
The MyHome Team mini-pack comes with around 30 RSNs in their respective markets, and costs $20 per month on top of the $70 MySports package. It’s a great way to watch both national and regional sports networks all in the same place, and at a monthly price of under $100, which is rare for a channel package that includes RSNs.
“Monumental Sports Network already reaches millions of homes across the DMV, and we’re always looking for ways to make it even easier for fans to watch our live games and our other programming,” Monumental president Zach Leonsis said. “We’re constantly pushing to make Monumental more accessible—whether it’s enhancing the streaming experience or lowering the cost of subscriptions—because we’re fighting for our fans’ best interests. They give so much to our network and teams, and we’re committed to doing right by them.”
