Prime Video adds local games from six NHL teams
The collapse of other sports distribution platforms has worked to Prime Video’s advantage.
The last six NHL teams with no local distribution partners for the 2026-27 season have found a home. As announced on Wednesday, Prime Video will become the streaming home for the local rights of six additional NHL teams that were formerly partnered with regional sports networks (RSNs) or the Victory+ streaming service.
Key Details:
- Welcome aboard: Prime Video will offer local games from six additional NHL teams this season.
- Just in time: The six teams were formerly broadcast on FanDuel RSNs or Victory+.
- Existing coverage: The Seattle Kraken are also partnered with Prime Video for local distribution.
Prime Video will take charge of distributing games from the Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues. Viewers living in the home markets of these teams will be able to watch games not appearing on national channels like ESPN and TNT on Prime Video starting in the 2026-27 season.
Most of these teams were partnered with a FanDuel Sports Network channel previously, but those channels are now defunct, as their parent company, Main Street Sports Group, shut down earlier this year. The Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars were teamed with Victory+, but left that streamer shortly before its ultimate collapse.
The hockey games join a wide range of other sports on Prime Video. The streamer offers “Thursday Night Football” NFL games each week of the regular season, as well as NBA regular-season and playoff games, and more. All of it is available to stream on Prime Video at no extra cost.
“We’re excited to build upon our strong relationship with the NHL and provide fans with more ways to connect with the local teams they love,” Prime Video executive Charlie Neiman said. “We have firmly established Prime Video as a primary destination for sports and look forward to helping these teams broaden the reach and accessibility of their live games.
Prime Video also partners with the Seattle Kraken to stream that team’s non-national games, and has an expanding relationship with the league in Canada, as well. The streamer has been involved in the chase for local sports rights essentially every time they hit the market, and it has netted a major score ahead of the 2026-27 NHL season.
“Fans want an easy way to find and follow their favorite teams, and this agreement with Prime Video gives Clubs the flexibility to meet that demand as the market evolves,” NHL SVP and senior media officer David Proper said. “Amazon has been a terrific partner to the NHL, and we’re excited to expand our relationship as Prime Video grows its NHL offerings. Together, we’re creating new opportunities for Clubs to reach fans and delivering a premium, accessible regional viewing experience.”
