What is VidAngel, and how does it work?
Find a beginner’s guide to VidAngel, including what exactly it is, how much it costs, and more below.
Streaming certainly has placed a wide range of programming in front of consumers. Unfortunately, all too often, streaming TV shows and movies are packed with graphic violence, explicit sexual content, foul language that no parent would want their kids hearing, and plenty of other moments that some viewers might find objectionable.
Of course, viewers who don’t think of this content as offensive can watch titles as presented. But those who want to cut out some of the bad stuff can check out a subscription to VidAngel, the streaming filtering service that lets viewers scrub what they want from top movies and shows. But how exactly does VidAngel work, and what can you filter once you have a subscription? Check our beginner’s guide below!
Everything you need to know about VidAngel
What is VidAngel?
VidAngel is a subscription service that allows customers to watch streaming content with pre-selected content filters. Choose the content you don’t want to see, and then begin playback of the title you want. VidAngel will automatically skip scenes featuring the stuff you say you don’t want to see.
How does VidAngel work?
Using a VidAngel account is simple. Once you’ve got a subscription and created your account, you’ll link existing streaming subscriptions to the service. Once you’ve done that, open the VidAngel website or app, pick the title you want to stream, and set your filter preferences.
Once you’ve made your choices, VidAngel will authenticate your subscription in the background and pull the video feed from the appropriate platform to its own interface. Then, your mute or skip rules will be applied to the title in real time as you watch.
What content can you filter with VidAngel?
There are three basic kinds of filters with VidAngel: default filters that apply to every title you watch, show-specific filters for each TV episode or movie, and locked filters that cannot be changed without entering the VidAngel password.
Then, choose from the following filter options:
- Profanity
- Blasphemy
- Crude language
- Sex
- Nudity
- Drugs and alcohol
- Graphic violence
- Non-graphic violence
- Blood and gore
- Medical procedures or bodily functions
- Vulgar gestures
- Frightening images
- Opening and closing credits
A VidAngel subscription lets viewers set the exact level of filtering they want; for example, customers who want to filter profanity can choose specific words to mute while streaming. Customize each viewing session while also setting filters that will apply universally to every title.

VidAngel
VidAngel is a video streaming service that taps into your streaming subscriptions and filters out all the “bad stuff.” With customizable filters, language that you don’t want to hear or images you don’t want to see are automatically removed from what you are watching. While it doesn’t work for every service, movie, or TV show, there are thousands of titles available to filter – ranging from new releases to older films.
