Peacock launches RSN add-on in Boston, Philly, parts of California
The NBCUniversal streamer is making its regional sports networks available on Peacock with prices ranging from $15 to $25 per month.
NBCUniversal just made it easier for sports fans in four of the country’s largest markets to follow their favorite teams. The multi-pronged media company announced on Tuesday that it would be making livestreams of its four regional sports networks (RSNs) available on its flagship streaming service Peacock. Now, sports fans in Boston, Philadelphia, and parts of California will be able to stream their favorite local MLB, NBA, NHL, and WNBA teams’ games in addition to tons of other sports content.
Key Details:
- Peacock is making its four regional sports networks available on Peacock.
- The RSNs will be available as an add-on to your Peacock subscription for $15 to $25 per month.
- The channels will be available in Boston, Philadelphia, and parts of California.
As the name suggests, these are regional sports networks, and therefore are only available in the region that they cover. In addition to the markets covered by NBC Sports Boston and NBC Sports Philadelphia, there will be two different channels streaming in California. NBC Sports Bay Area will focus on the San Francisco market while NBC Sports California will focus on Oakland, Sacramento, and San Jose.
Customers in any of these markets will be able to watch the channels regardless of their Peacock plan, but they do require an add-on purchase. The ad-supported Peacock Premium plan runs $8 per month and the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus is $14. The additional RSN charge will range from $15 to $25 every month, depending on what market you are in.
One downside of the RSN option is that it is currently only available to Peacock subscribers who are billed directly through the service. That means that any customer who is signed up via a third-party platform like Prime Video will be unable to opt for the sports channel in their market, and the same is true for subscribers who have access to the streamer via their cell phone company or other providers.
However, The Streamable has confirmed that customers who are subscribed to Peacock via one of Xfinity’s StreamSaver bundles are able to sign up to receive their respective RSN directly through Peacock. Since NBCU — and in turn, Peacock — fall under the Xfinity corporate umbrella, StreamSaver subscribers are not considered third-party customers with respect to RSN access.
What teams air games on NBC Sports RSNs?
| Network | Teams With Live Games In-Market | Add-On Price |
|---|---|---|
| NBC Sports Bay Area | San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, San Jose State Spartans, Bay FC, Santa Cruz Warriors | $17.95 |
| NBC Sports Boston | Boston Celtics, Connecticut Sun, Maine Celtics | $14.95 |
| NBC Sports California | [Athletics][Oakland Athletics], Sacramento Kings, San Jose Sharks, San Jose State Spartans, Bay FC, San Jose Barracuda | $17.95 |
| NBC Sports Philadelphia | Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Flyers | $24.95 |
In addition to the live games broadcast on the channels, each RSN will feature other pre and postgame shows, other pro and college sports, documentaries, original series, and much more.
While subscribers will have access to the around-the-clock feed of their primary RSN, they will also receive their network’s respective plus or overflow channels when multiple games are airing at the same time.
