Something to stream every day: football edition
The NFL and college football are back with a vengeance this week, and they have a large presence on our list of things to stream each day.
Happy September, fellow autumn lovers! We’re just a few weeks away from the end of summer, but the trappings of fall have already arrived for some. That means cool temperatures, sweaters, Halloween decorations in stores, and of course, football, football, and more football.
There’ll be a heavy presence of football on this week’s list of new shows and movies to watch this week, but we’ll also have plenty of TV shows and movies to offer viewers who don’t care about the gridiron. See the best picks for new TV and movie premieres to watch this week!
Monday, Sept. 1
‘Barney's World’ fall season premiere | HBO Max
Barney, the singing and dancing purple dinosaur, is joined by dinos Billy and Baby Bop and their three kid best friends at the local playground. Each episode, Barney and his friends help to impart important lessons to the kids, with lots of fun and laughter along the way.
This is a good streaming option for parents who need something for the kids to watch, but it also bears watching in the wider context of HBO Max’s content philosophy. HBO Max has been steadily moving away from kids titles, and though this show only launched in 2024, it may not be long for this world if it doesn’t attract a large viewership.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2, part B release Netflix
Smart, sarcastic and a little dead inside, Wednesday Addams investigates a murder spree while making new friends — and foes — at the fantastical school Nevermore Academy. All the while, gifts she never anticipated begin to develop in Wednesday, causing her to wonder just what else the future has in store.
There’s also the fact that Wednesday’s little brother, Pugsley, is now a student at Nevermore and is desperate to fit in. Morticia and Gomez find themselves around the campus quite a bit more as well, and if there’s one thing that’s harder to solve than a murder spree, it’s how to navigate family dynamics at school

NFL Sunday kickoff | ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC | Watch with a five-day free trial of DIRECTV.
I promise, I won’t do this every week of football season. Really. But with every NFL team not playing on Thursday or Friday scheduled to be in action on Sunday (or Monday night), I couldn’t ignore the opening weekend of the 2025 NFL season. Games will air across major broadcast channels during the day, and the first “Sunday Night Football” game of the year will also air.
DIRECTV
DIRECTV is one of The Streamable’s top choices for the best live TV streaming service overall in 2026, especially for users who want the most channels or want to watch the most live sports. With an unbeatable lineup of local, news, sports, and entertainment channels, three main signature packages, an unlimited DVR, and 20 simultaneous streams at home, DIRECTV remains a premier choice for any cord-cutter.
There are some intriguing storylines to pay attention to in Week 1. An NFC North showdown of titans will see the Detroit Lions play the Green Bay Packers, and the Baltimore Ravens will face the Buffalo Bills on “SNF.” After a long, sometimes-exhausting offseason, football is officially back!
