More streaming done on Roku than on broadcast in July
Roku is one of the most popular streaming operating systems in the world. Viewers can watch free TV shows and movies with the ad-supported Roku Channel streaming service, or purchase premium streaming subscriptions like Netflix, Disney+, and many more through their Roku device.
On Wednesday, Roku touted Nielsen data that showed streaming on Roku-powered streaming devices and smart TVs accounted for 21.4% of all TV viewing time in July 2025, surpassing the 18.4% share claimed by broadcast TV. July was the third month in a row that viewing on Roku players outstripped viewership of broadcast TV channels. Broadcast is likely getting a big rebound in September with the return of college and pro football, but the data demonstrates the power and popularity of the Roku brand.
