Spooky Season has officially arrived. Halloween is mere days away, and as always lovers of the season will want to celebrate the time of year by watching some hair-raising frights. From “Halloween” to “Saw,” from B-movies to big budget bloody romps, there are a huge array of horror movies and thrillers available to stream using all of your favorite subscription streaming platforms.

Which Streaming Services Have the Most Horror?

For sheer volume of horror movies, there’s no better streaming destination than Prime Video. The streaming aggregation platform and data collector ReelGood has compiled a list of the most horror-heavy streaming libraries, and Prime Video leads the way with 1,066 horror titles. For the highest quality horror flicks, however, fans should check out AMC+; that streamer carries 196 horror movies that ReelGood rates as “quality” or “high quality.”

It should come as no surprise that AMC+, with content from its horror-dedicated sibling streamer Shudder has such a high volume of quality scary movies. Peacock, which houses titles from the “Halloween” franchise as well as “Scream” and the streaming original series “Chucky” carries more than 400 horror titles in all, making it a great cost-effective way to stream yourself scared at $5.99 per month.

From a TV aspect, Netflix leads the pack with 59 horror series. The streamer recently released “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and made a big splash with horror audiences in 2018 with “The Haunting of Hill House.” Prime Video comes in second with 46 horror series, and Hulu takes third with 40 individual shows in the genre.

Which Horror Franchises are Most Popular?

This time of year always gets more people buzzing about their favorite horror movies. But if you’ve noticed your friends talking more about scary movies this year than normal, you’re not just imagining things. Data compiled by Diesel Labs indicates that “Saw X” — which The Streamable predicts will be available to stream in January — has driven the horror genre’s share of voice 3.25 times higher than it was in the last two years. Diesel defines share of voice as the percent share of engagement that a genre contributes to the overall engagement across the media and entertainment landscape; in other words, “Saw X” has people talking about horror in a big way.

Diesel has also researched which horror franchises are most popular among fans by measuring how these franchises perform in years where they release a new installment versus years where they do not. Its study found that the “Halloween” and “Resident Evil” franchises are best at keeping audiences engaged in years where a new movie or show from that IP is not released, and that “A Nightmare on Elmstreet” films are also fairly evergreen.
