YES Network, MSG moving in-market streams to DAZN
The move will affect the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Nets, and many more teams.
Fans of New York sports teams who are broadcast on YES Network or MSG will soon have to learn a new streaming service. Until now, those channels have been partners in a joint venture called the Gotham Sports App, a direct-to-consumer service that streams games from the New York Yankees, New York Knicks, and other area teams. But on Wednesday, YES and MSG announced that they were exiting the JV and would send their streaming rights to DAZN henceforward.
Key Details:
- Big move: YES Network and MSG will offer their teams via streaming on DAZN starting this year.
- No more: The two networks are exiting their Gotham Sports App JV.
- Big opportunity: DAZN has been dogged in its recent pursuit of local rights for American teams.
It can be confusing and frustrating to be a fan of major teams from the New York tri-state area when trying to navigate the complexities of cable and streaming rights, especially when your rooting interests cross the traditional broadcast partnerships. However, starting this fall, things will get at least a little bit simplified, while also providing DAZN with a major upgrade in terms of domestic visibility.
Starting with the 2026-27 NBA and NHL regular seasons, DAZN will be the streaming partner of the Yankees, Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, and Buffalo Sabres. The streamer will also offer live feeds of MSG, MSG Sportsnet, and YES Network, as well as on-demand content and more.
Customers who are still subscribed to YES or MSG through a pay-TV subscription will still be able to access that content on DAZN at no additional cost. Gotham Sports App subscribers will receive more information about migrating subscriptions to DAZN in the coming months.
“DAZN is honored to partner with both the YES Network and MSG Networks to become their exclusive direct-to-consumer streaming home, bringing the Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Nets, Devils, Islanders, and Sabres to more fans than ever before,” DAZN CEO Shay Segev said. “It is a defining moment for us and underscores our commitment to expanding our footprint in the United States.”
DAZN has been in active pursuit of more local sports rights in the United States recently. The streamer took a long look at purchasing Main Street Sports Group to buy up its attendant local MLB, NBA, and NHL rights, and recently purchased the streaming tech company ViewLift, which works with a long list of American sports teams. The addition of MSG and YES teams to the DAZN platform is a big win for the streamer.
“DAZN is a premier streaming platform that operates all over the world and we couldn’t be happier to offer our fans this opportunity to watch MSG Networks content on their state-of-the-art platform,” MSG executive Kevin Marotta said. “Coming off of a historic Knicks Championship season, we are excited to take our streaming offering to the next level. Fans of the Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Devils and Sabres deserve the best of the best and we’re proud to offer the MSG and YES direct-to-consumer content through this partnership with DAZN.”
MSG and YES first teamed on the Gotham Sports App in 2024, giving New York fans a way to watch their favorite clubs all on a single platform. Viewers were able to choose access to MSG, YES Network, or both, and watch all the teams in those packages without a larger pay-TV package.
