Lionsgate’s Starzplay Reveals Slate of International Originals
Starzplay — the international streaming service from Starz — today unveiled their slate of international originals. The Lionsgate-owned streamer will add to their roster with four series from Spain and Mexico, according to Variety. All four shows will be made available in Latin America, while a selection will be available in Spain and the U.S. on Starz and Lionsgate’s Latinx content streamer Pantaya.
The streamer will be the home for the dark period thriller “Señorita Mexico,” “Nacho Vidal, an Industry XXXL,” “Express” and “Toda la Sangre.” The shows were created in collaboration with some of the Spanish-speaking world’s heavy-hitters, including renowned showrunners Iván Escobar and Lucía Puenzo as well as production companies such as Spain’s Bambu Producciones and The Mediapro Studio, London-based Fremantle as well as Chile’s Fabula.
This is the latest play in Starzplay’s attempt to boost their content. In June, the streaming service Starzplay landed the rights to bring the second season of Hulu’s “Ramy” to European territories, Deadline reported. The Lionsgate-owned streaming service will bring the hit show to the UK, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland on August 6.
In May, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed that the company expected Starz, Starzplay and Pantaya to see a boost as the coronavirus continues to force people to stay home. Feltheimer believed the company will amass 13 to 15 million paid OTT subscribers by the end of its fiscal year, with Starz leading the trio.
