Can You Stream ‘Alien: Romulus’ At Home? When is it Coming to Hulu, and Where Can You Stream Other ‘Alien’ Movies?

The newest installment in the ‘Alien’ franchise is getting good buzz in theaters, which means it could be a while before it streams on Hulu.

Alien: Romulus is in theaters now, and it could stay there for a while.

In space, no one can hear you scream…but sound carries much better in movie theaters, as cinema patrons at screenings of “Alien: Romulus” are discovering. The newest movie in the “Alien” franchise is winning over audiences and critics alike, and there’s a good chance fans could be in for a long wait before it’s ready to stream at home.

Key Details:

  • “Alien: Romulus” has both critical and audience scores of above 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • The film is distributed by 20th Century Studios, and will debut on Hulu and Disney+ when the time comes.
  • Considering its early box-office success, the film is likely to stay in theaters for more than 100 days.

Watch the Trailer for “Alien: Romulus”:

“Alien: Romulus” is set 20 years after the events of the franchise’s first film. A group of Weyland-Yutani employees decides to abandon their bleak home in favor of a new life, but when they stumble across a station at which the fearsome and deadly Xenomorphs are being studied, they accidentally unleash one of the greatest threats to life in the galaxy that has ever existed.

The Rotten Tomatoes critical score for “Alien: Romulus” has settled at 82%, with 86% of audiences agreeing the film is a screaming good time. There are plenty of homages to past films baked into the movie, but lots of new frights as well, proving the film is not just a rehash of past efforts.

When Will ‘Alien: Romulus’ Stream at Home?

It's likely that Alien: Romulus won't debut on Hulu for more than 100 days.

There has been no official streaming date for “Alien: Romulus” announced as yet. Fortunately, since the movie is being distributed by 20th Century Studios, we know that it will debut on Hulu when it eventually does make its way to streaming. Any Hulu customers who bundle their service with Disney+ will almost assuredly be able to watch the movie on both services.

But when will that be? Earlier this year, 20th Century Studios released “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which like “Alien: Romulus” was the latest sequel in a long-running franchise. It took 84 days for the film to come to Hulu after its theatrical release in May, but that data point alone may not be enough to predict the window for “Alien: Romulus,” which appears to be on a trajectory for a higher box office. It’s probably not going to take as long as “Avatar: The Way of Water,” however; that movie took 183 days to reach Disney streaming services after being released in theaters in December 2022.

I’ll split the difference here, and predict that “Alien: Romulus” will take 119 days to reach Hulu after its official theatrical release on Aug. 16. That will make it available to stream on Dec. 13, the perfect way to have a jump-scare-filled holiday season for those so inclined.

Hulu

Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

It offers a good selection of current TV shows and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You will be able to watch most shows from networks like ABC and Fox, and cable channels like FXX, FXM, HGTV, and more.

The service has a Limited Commercials plan for $7.99 a month, or you can upgrade to their No Ads plan for $17.99 a month. For $76.99 a month, you can get Hulu Live TV from major cable channels, live locals and regional sports networks.

Where Can You Stream Other ‘Alien’ Movies?

If you want Alien movies, Hulu is the best destination for you.

If you want to marathon the rest of the titles in the “Alien” franchise, Hulu is the place to be. It’s got all the movies from the original series, as well as the newer titles released in recent years. There are even “Alien vs. Predator” crossover titles on Hulu, and all of these movies are available on Disney+ as well if customers are subscribed to both services.

Directed by James Cameron, Aliens takes a small sidestep from the horror genre and goes for a more sci-fi action approach as Ripley and the colonial marines return to the feared planet and search for answers. This endlessly quotable flick is enjoyable every time you see it.

According to legend, Cameron landed the directing job by writing “Alien” on a dry erase board. Then adding an “s” so it said “Aliens.” And then he drew two lines through the “s” - “Alien$.”
