Apple TV Plus to Debut Sports Docuseries ‘Greatness Code’ on July 10

With most major league live sports still on hiatus, sports documentaries help to fill the gap.

Apple TV+ will debut the sports docuseries “Greatness Code” on July 10. According to Apple, “Greatness Code” will “spotlight untold stories from the greatest athletes in the world.”

The seven-episode series highlights an array of sports figures, such as basketball legend LeBron James, soccer star Alex Morgan, Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man, and Katie Ledecky, five-time Olympic champion swimmer, and six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, among others.

Each episode zeroes in on critical moment in an athlete’s career.

“Greatness Code” is a coproduction between Religion of Sports, cofounded by Gotham Chopra, Tom Brady and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, and Uninterrupted, the brand founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

Gotham Chopra will direct the series. He also directed-produced “Decoding Deepak,” a documentary about his father.

On Monday, Apple TV+ cut a deal for an untitled four-part docuseries from Brian Lazarte and James Lee Hernandez (“McMillion$”). It joins other original docs, such as “Visible” and “Home.”

The streamer also announced it was acquiring older TV shows and movies. Ten million people signed up, as of February; only half were regular users. That’s why it’s on a buying spree — to entice more viewers to the service.
