REPORT: Google to Launch Updated Android TV With Google Stadia Support

Stephanie Sengwe

Google announced new updates for Android TV at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam. According to a report by XDA-Developers, the company revealed road maps of changes coming to their Android TV later this year through 2021.

First, Google plans to revamp the Android 10, with updates to the Google Assistant and the previously announced total refresh of Google Play, which makes app discovery easier, and makes it easier to buy and subscribe to services.

In 2020, Google plans to launch Android 11, which would support Google Stadia—their cloud gaming service. Stadia will be accessible on 2018 or 2019 Pixel smartphones, the Google Chrome browser, or the Chromecast Ultra, with games available in 4K at launch. In addition, the company will also expand homescreen ads—which, according to 9to5Google, are designed not just for revenue, but also for better content discovery.

Though little was revealed about Google’s plans for Android TV in 2021, XDA-Developers did report that there will be more updates to the Google Assistant, an Android 12 update will be made available, “with advancing of the hero device” and 8,000 to 10,000 apps as well as less hardware fragmentation.
